whats needed to participate (other than a car) in a track day, does the car need mot, insurance and tax? looking at getting into tarck days and buying a corsa 1.6 or something along those lines as cheap for parts quickish and fairly reliable but if i dont need mot etc then there is often ones on ebay for peanuts, cheers

You need an MOT to prove the car is road worthy (although I never got asked for it), that's it, just a helmet and away you go

When I paid for my last trackday I was told it had to be proved roadworthy, but it's probably just one of those things they need to put to cover themselves

saxo vtr
mk1 clio rsi
corsa sport 1.6

or anything else you may think off that can be picked up sub £300 mark

I took my kitcar out before it was SVA tested so it had no proof of road worthiness. I think it is a case of being sensible with what you take. if the marshals deem it unsuitable and don't let you out then you will have just wasted your own time and money.

Saxo vtr is probably the best choice of those cars. Although something big power and rwd would also be fun under £300

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Corsa wouldn't be my choice, sorry.

Don't forget you'll also need to get it there.

I gave 350 for the green one and 250 for the silver.

Both off Ebay but both via a phone call with the good news.

My advice would be find one that is doing badly with a reserve on, phone them, tell them no one is going to buy it because they don't have trailers and that you'll be there at the the weekend.

Go in to the cars section on Ebay and run this search

(no mot, mot fail, mot failure, recently failed, failed mot)

Tick 'Include title and description'

Under a grand

25 miles of your postcode

Happy days

Also more advice - try and find someone who hasn't have any knowledge and just wants rid. If its a boy racer car that's been laid up there is probably more that the seller isn't letting on.

For example - I wouldn't touch this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290387922861

Yeah that's what I said!! I was aiming to spend 500 tops but the temptation to upgrade stuff was too great. Could have done it for less of course.
