I was just browsing the insurance thread in general chat and thought the attitude/comments from members to the insurer not wanting to insure under 25`s on performance cars was a bit out of order.

Its very simple...

A lot of insurers wont insure you kids on powerful vehicles because statistically theres a bloody high chance that you will crash them due to inexperience and idiotic driving... surley thats not hard to comprehend?

Granted there are under 25`s out there with adequate experience, driving skill and most importantly good rood craft/behaviour but i expect thats the minority.

I agree although at the same time my brother is 21 and drives a 310bhp Leon Cupra K1 aint a dangerous driver etc. They've got him paying just over 4k to insure the thing mods declared.

It should be years of experience tbh, but then again there are some older drivers that are shit and will always be shit.

I agree about an age limit, but 25 is a bit high imo - 21 should do it.

And a 1.2 Corsa in the wrong hands is enough to go out and kill a load of people through speeding.

I insure my 600cc motorbike for £400 a year, I think a motorbike is a tiny bit more dangerous than the ultra supercar that is an astra VXR

I mean i can understand the rules for something like a lamborghini. But an astra VXR is barely a "performance car" in my book

I have no idea how insurance premiums for bikes are calculated but agree the risk is undoubtedly much greater.

Comparing to a car though is irrelevent and out of context. An Astra VXR is hardly a slouch though when comparing to other cars. If I had something like that when I was young I probably would have stuffed it as would a lot of my friends at that age. Id love to see some statistics on how many cars like that are written off each year for the under 25 age group.

Its people like that that make insurance so much more expensive for everyone else. I'd say i'm quite a safe driver, 3 years ncb, but my renewal to put my gf on the car will be just shy of a grand mods declared. So rediculous tbh

i was just making a point.

But then the astra etc is aimed at that sort of age group! if you had a look at how many Audi RS6's or BMW M5's are written off each year, you may come to the conclusion that 40 year old bankers are the most dangerous drivers in the universe!

I only commented because I thought it was a bit tight not quoting on VXR's for under 25's. Put it this way, I dont know anyone over 25 with one, but ive got several mates under 25, & know of plenty folk on here with them. Under 21 restriction would be more understandable, its not like its a 911 GT2. I dont see the beef

i earn more than that and would i fuck pay 4k for insurance most i paid was 2600 which was the biggest mistake ever

currently paying 1k on the focus, would never pay more than that now.

he must be really bored to spunk 4k on insurance tbh. lovely car that cupra though.
