been york with the GF for the weekend, booked a queen suite for the friday + saturday night, turned up at friday 9pm to be told by the manager that they had over booked and that we would have to go to another hotel, they said they had arrangements with another hotel just outside of town ( this hotel was right in the centre) Mrs was a bit pissed off cause she had planned it all for my birthday

the manager then said he would arrange a Taxi to take us to the new hotel and then into town for the night, then back home, and then back to the first hotel in the morning

we got to the new hotel to find they had given us a King 4 poster room that was fucking massive and stunning, and 2 free drinks each, got the taxi into york and back

woke up saturday went back to the original hotel via a free taxi to find they had upgraded us to an executive suite with free internet movies and porno channels, and they would include a £13.50 meal each

woke up this morning to leave and they give me a ticket to leave the carpark for free which saved me another £20

Did you enjoy the nightlife? Usually an awesome night in York, especially if your feeling flash and go to the posh bars.

At least they looked after you properly. Its standard practice for hotels to overbook on busy nights to improve the chance of filling, because theres always no-shows etc. Its like airlines.

I hate telling people we've overbooked and have no room for them. Not suprisingly it doesn't go down well!!

One guy once spat in my face. Needless to say that solved the situation as he was removed from the hotel and told to get stuffed.

Tbh though at any decent hotel when they know they have screwed up they bend over backwards to sort the situation out.

Our hotel in Nottingham was overbooked. It was a Stag Party too so we had 4/5 per room However we got a hefty discount which was spent on more beer. So it worked out.
