thought I would show these pics off

went to RAF Scampton to visit the Red Arrows, they were practicing their new moves before buggering off to cyprus to practice in the sunshine.

this is their Hanger

The flightline

my camera was crap at air pics, so didnt even bother, stand by for better ones coming from another chaps camera.

so Scampton is famous for the Dambusters raid that was started from there. if you have seen the film or read the story, there is a certain character with a now questionable name!

Nigger the Dog, Wing Comander Guy Gibson's beloved Black Lab, was runover on the night the mission was underway and was buried at scampton by the ground crew before Wg Cdr Gibson's return.

Here is the grave!

then we took a short trip to nearby RAF Waddington, home of the Sentry, the Sentinel, and the Nimrod...
And possibly the most beautiful and legendary RAF post WW2. Vulcan 607, took part in the 'Black Buck' missions to the falklands islands, '607 was the only one to hit the runway and put it out of service.

SO UP YOURS ARGIES, WANT ANOTHER PIECE?

And the mighty sentry

more, vastly better pics to come

was it a spotters day or something? I used to work a waddo. The door of 607 had been seized shut for years and they bust it open to rape it for spares for 558

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Nice images.

Vulcan looks glorious as ever.

Needs to be heard though.

Never ceases to amuse me that something so comparatively small has such a history and reputation.

Never got to go.

I did think that if I jumped up it might bump me on the head once or twice at Biggin Hill when I was fairly little though.

The sound level was unreal. Don't think i've ever seen anything fixed wing being flown in anger so close to me since.

I can almost feel the sound pressure in my chest now.

They don't need Vulcans over there anymore. Four Typhoons do a good enough job of scaring the Argies from trying anything silly again. We have over 25:1 kill ratio between the EFA and the Mirage

Yeah but just imagine a bomb laiden Vulcan covered in cameras and a very, VERY loud PA playing a loop of all the instrumental stuff from Top Gun repeatedly buzzing everything it can get it's mitts on and putting the shits up em for proper!
