How far can you go on the tuning stakes before it needs to be run on super unleaded, if at all?

I have heard that once big power comes into it, then super is needed, if not it can damage the engine.

Nearest garage to me with super unleaded is 40 miles away

I see, I ask as a friend of mine had a VXR nurburgring that was mapped, ended up blowing the fucker up with less than 500 miles on it, vauxhall claimed it was because it was not being run on super unleaded

its higher octane. if you run it on lower when its supposed to be on super, it can wreck it. fuelling is extremely important on tuned cars.

If it's mapped for normal fuel it'll run perfectly fine on normal fuel.

bullshit.

Cars today from the factory run a conservative map, and most can run from 88 octane all the way up to 102 octane without the need to re-map to avoid damage.

If were talking a 500bhp evo thats been mapped to run on 102 ron and its run on 95 ron at peak boost you are asking for trouble though. standard road cars run fine on any fuel, and most dont benefit from performance fuels. Only when we talk fine tuning and mapping does the type of fuel run matter.

Unless it's been mapped for 95 ron, in which case it'll work fine.

You can run any car on any fuel as long as its mapped to suit, i'm sure I saw a 600bhp supra on crap US spec 92ron or something. Just don't have massively advanced ignition or compression and it will be fine.
