Was just chatting to my mate who has not long bought a Focus RS and I was asking why they didn't put a 4WD system into production into it. Then we got onto the subject of torque steer with my car blah blah blah and he linked me to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fhq6sjIo5Cs

Interesting I thought

My mate (who works for Ford) said they did actually produce one but because of the weight, it was producing too much co2 and it broke emission regulations.

I bet the 4x4 system wasn't put in becuase it would add another £10k to the list price.

the Megane RS and Clio RS has had the same technology for years. They just called it independent steering axis front suspension.

Renault just dont seem to make the same amount of fuss over it as ford do

Still 100x more informative than the dealers when you go in to enquire about buying one even though it is a load of shite!

a guy in a blue rover nearly drove into me tonight, because he was driving like the red car. stupid bastard.

i heard that ford wanted to use the volvo 4wd system but it couldn't handle the power and would need improving. no idea if it's true or complete bullshit.

Mitsubishi and Subaru manage to do it in sub 30k cars so why can't ford?

@ that video.

And like GSi_16v says Renault have had it for years but it wears a RS badge so we are supposed to be in awe of it

You could solve that poor red cars issue with a Quaife differential, £500 quid. BANG

i thought that too, never did it in my focus to that extent at all.

the rs drives great as standard, 4wd would've been nice to compete with evo/impreza but it doesn't really need it.

Mitsubishi and Subaru make 4x4 saloons as well as their rally homologations. I assume Ford of Europe don't really think they need to start making 4x4 Mondeos and Focus' therefore there probably isn't the point in them developing a 4x4 system for a single trim level of a single model which they are going to sell relatively few of.

i don't think people understand the development costs of making a decent, useable 4wd system tbh.

like you say, developing and manufacturing it for it to be used in just one type of trim of one car may seem good to people who want to drive fast everywhere, but it would cost millions just to design and build it.

they could've used the kuga system i suppose but it's not very good.

I'd imagine the Kuga is just an FWD system with a transfer box too. No good if you want to go about taking on the Japanese...
