I'm not sure he wouldve been on the plane anyway. Capello picks on merit. And he hasn't had too many minutes recently. Shame for him though. Bet he's devastated.

Gutted, only Ferdinand and Owen left from that 98 squad.

I wonder if Gary Neville will break into the squad as hes playing quite a bit for United

Owen definately won't and I can see Neville going but he shouldn't.

Owen is 100% out isnt he. And with Rio's record lately he may struggle to make it!!

Campbell may well make it

I don't think I'm bothered about the WC now.

I may tell everyone on here I'm actually Korean and support my homeland team instead

Ian can you change my name to Pork Chow Mein please? My friends only call me Marc because its easier.

Harsh TBF, I thought he was worthy of a place in the squad and I reckon he'll be missed.

Me to, especially if we are 1-0 down or something and need some penetration, send him and Crouch on and it turns the game around.

I think we have seen him play his last game for England.

Capello won't need him again, he is already past his best and will only go downhill if not retire before Euro 2012, no point playing him leading upto a tournament he won't make and Capello isn't one for the sentiment of a swan song in a friendly!

Agree with OJC, he can change a game with one free kick, useful player to bring on! Even as a Scot i'm disappointed he will be missing the world cup.

IMO this is a big blow for England. He would have come in really handy.
