Good all rounder.
Thirsty and expensive when they go wrong.
Had mine 2.5 years and done 35k in it, no plans to sell it.

What kinda mpg are you getting?
I do short journeys and then about twice a week ill go about 2x 100m motorway drives.
What kinda things have you replaced or things that might need replacing?

Motorway I get about 29mpg, around town low 20's I think.
Only major thing I have had to replace was the clutch and flywheel, didn't get much change from 1k but it might be cheaper now.
Also had both ARB's go aswell as bushes etc
Apart from that I service mine myself apart from the haldex which I pay the £100 or whatever to a garage to do.

Fuck me, so 4x4 and traction control is a must then
Silly question but because its 4x4 will that drive the tax up much?
The corsa sport is about £200 and these are like £225 so not much different.

Although its Quattro it isn't 4x4 all the time, only when it has too much for the front wheels to cope so sends some power to the back iirc, so not sure it makes any difference on tax

the engines like to kill Mass airflow meters and coilpacks. not too expensive though.
Dual Mass Clutch on them but can convert them to single mass for around £400 I think.
Good cars, respond well to a remap. still hold their money well.

similar to my car.
coil packs and MAF fail, but apart from those they're pretty solid.
I haven't had my MAF go yet but my friend has.
I've had a speed sensor fail, but fairly cheap to repair and maintain.
I chose an LCR over a CTR (even though the CTR is the better handler).
I'd also choose an S3 over both. It's just a shame they cost so much for low mileage examples.
Focus RS is quicker than both on track.

Not overly sure what the difference is I just know the dual mass is alot heavier and costs more.
I think the dual mass has the next gear already engaged to protect the box from harsh gear changes etc. Could be talking total crap here though lol.
Convert it by using a g60 clutch and vr6 flywheel, or something random like that.

Traction control isn't a must at all, I find it easier to handle with it switched off. That driver must have been a numpty.
But yeah they are shit, slow, unreliable, dull and generally not as good as anything else...

Yeah sorry complete sarcasm, just the views you will get from most people. But I think if you ask all the owners/ex owners on here they rate them.
I think mine is a great car, I know Ian was supposed to sell his but kept it because he didn't want to, there are a couple more owners on here aswell and as far as I know they all share the same views...

Sorry i so didnt see that
So what forums do you two use for them?
And what kind of easy mods can you do (apart from remap)
Just think they are a nice car and not many about down here unlike CTR's and what not.
The gf said they are a daddies car
Also said they are massive but she wont believe me they are near enough the same size as golfs.

Ive got a 225 TT (shares the same engine and quattro as the S3)
Its remapped and makes around 270/290. 60 in under 6 and 100 in under 14.
The Haldex is great in the wet, i cant remember what wheels spin is.
Its a bit understeery when pushed hard, but you learn where the limit is. Plus you can change the haldex controller so its permanent 4wd, and not just when the fronts slip.
Get around 25mpg, but i drive like a terrorist all the time.

audi-sport.net has pretty much any info you will ever need, recommended mods etc.
Mine is standard apart from wheels and some coilovers so haven't really looked into much more.
If you are used to running and modifying a Corsa though you might get a bit of a shock as it is a league above money wise. Maintenance is cheap and easy to do yourself but repairs can get pricey.

Well you have to mod a corsa to actual enjoy owning it
If i bought the s3 id be the same as you, just little things as its already a great car
Well ive got a close friend who does all my work for me so that wont be a problem. Do they share alot of parts from the standard a3 1.8t?

audi dealership servicing costs a lot, but they're cheap to run otherwise.
with a remap, you're only looking at about 260bhp max. a lot of people get 250.
the companies quote BS figures.

Yeah for a 'performance' car they are fairly cheap to maintain as its pretty much a Golf. I'm a mechanic so do all the bits myself but anyone with a bit of common sense could do the servicing. and the bits aren't too pricey either.
Obviously when things break or wear out like clutches etc it can get dear but looking after it isn't bad.
