First remotely warm day (17ish here) today and I've had a chance to drive the car about.
It's got a standard 92 degree thermostat on. Up until today it's got up to 92 and stayed there, risen up to 94 only when sat in traffic for a few minutes.
Today it's been running at 94 standard and rising up to 96 / 98 even just sat at lights or roadworks.
Not exactly good imo considering it's not all that warm still yet!
May have to stick the cool running kit back on me thinks?

mine stays under 90, creeps up to 90 reeeeaaallllyyy slowely wen in traffic and that

turbo in mine runs at 90 ish when driving. Will take about 5 mins sitting still to get to 95. Standard thermostat and radiator almost touching manifold for the win.

Put your fan on a switch. The older Vauxhalls are terriable for overheating in traffic

Hmmm. Radiator works, as does fan - it kicks in about 98 we found before.
Old cool running thermostat never used to go above 92 unless sat for a long time in traffic (10 mins or so)
Guess I ought to go back to that for Summer? I've also contemplated ditching the standard fan and fitting a slimline Kenlowe one? And run a switch as override. Good / bad idea?

shouldnt need a switch on it. As long as fan comes in and temp goes down dont see the problem. 98 degrees is no problem for a pressurized water system.

What about fitting an uprated slimline fan but not bother with a switch then? I just get paranoid when I see the needle heading towards the red! Looks like the queue for PVS etc will be me pushing the car
Need to change a coolant hose on the top of the rad anyway so will change back to cool running thermostat whilst I'm at it if thought to be a good idea?

That excatly why I put mine on a switch. As soon as hit 95, put it on went straight back down  no need to worry seeing it go upto 100 then..

Never had a problem with mine.When the temp rose,the fan kicked in and done its job.Simples.
As long as you have plenty water/coolant in the system i dont see a problem.

Yeh water / coolant levels are fine - I only replaced all that a month or so back when I fitted the new thermostat. I just get paranoid about seeing the needle working its way toward the red!

I did it to keep heat soak to a minimum. And like Rich said, i'm paranoid too.

Mine ran at 90 which is a bit hot.
Put the silicone hoses on and it hardly ever registered on the corsa temp gauge.
I was always under the impression they should run under 90.

if your water temp is too low perhaps your oil temp isnt enough which causes damage?

My old XE barely even registered, i didnt think the guage worked til i noticed it dropping down slightly when i switched it off one night.

Mine barely registered when I had the cool running kit on it - I can't help thinking a lot of you have those fitted and maybe don't even realise?
All the sensors have been replaced on mine too which made a difference.

I just assumed that mine had a cool running stat, i bought my XE already built, it also had roose silicone hoses.

Mine sits at about 90 on the gauge all the time. when i sit still for 5 mins or whatever in traffic it slowly creeps up to around 98 until the fan kicks in and drops it down again.

Have you got a cool running kit on yours as well mate? Don't know if Phil knew it was or not, but the one that was on here definitely was as replacing with a confirmed 92 degree one was noticeable on the gauge and the mpg the car returned!
May give it a few more drives out in warmer weather and see how I get on.

With anti-freeze/summer coolant mix and a pressurised cooling system you are safe up to 115 deg C before the water will boil. The thermostat doesn't really affect the running temp as once it is above the opening temp then it doesn't do anything. even if you had one that opens at 50 deg then once it is open the engine will still get hotter than that. I don't want to teach you to suck eggs, but the thermostat is only there to help the engine warm quicker.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I've put closer to winter mix of anti freeze / coolant in it atm as up till last couple of weeks the nights have still been getting down to freezing.
I'll give it a bit longer and see how I get on then. Only other thing I can think is that I've fitted a less open standard V grille back on as well, but can't see that's making a difference tbh.
If it keeps getting hot, I'll be back asking for suggestions on fan upgrade!!
