So, been using it the last week or so, its been ok, few problems like the heatwrap being damaged on bumps, and it decided to have an air leak that caused it to idle badly and cut out sometimes when pulling up at junctions, but its fixed and has been ok since.

Just been running it around to bed it in, as i'm trying to sell her, thought i best get some miles on her to find any niggly problems.

Driving it has been, erm, fun, bugger me its loud, the exhaust is raspy as fuck and i have no fillings left, but its great to drive.

Had a bit play with a VRs thing the other day, it got past me, but didnt gain much ground, which was nice.

Until today, dropped my lass off at work (she hates it, has a pillow on the seat to try and add comfort lol), went to tesco, then b&q, then came back down the coast road & gave it some beans, got to the billy mill roundabout and taptaptaptaptap oil light on. BALLS. Oil level is fine, oil light is coming on at idle, so i'm assuming the oil pump is fubar'd.

What a complete bastard, don't have the fiesta back yet from getting the rack swapped, and i'm too scared to drive the corsa incase the pump gives up totally. Need to find someone to fix it, this weekend ideally.

Sigh, after it taking so long to build it and get on the road, it lasts a week then fucks up, oh check my mad skills yo.

Fucksticks.

Any further diagnosis? A mate of mine says oil pumps dont just go for no reason & it could be the bottom end??

Oh balls, more money, got to fix it before i can sell it.

20XE, i've been putting it together on & off for the last 3 years, but didnt touch the bottom end, so not sure what its like, bought the engine & was told it was a good runner. Did a top end rebuild.

Come to the conclusion its the bottom end, time to find another one and get it swapped over.

I hate it when people sell you stuff thats obviously knackered, i just took their word that it was a good engine, i've already had to replace the loom, afm, various sensors & rebuild top end, fuck, i might aswell have bought a new engine and did it from scratch.

sometimes the more expensive route can be the cheapest.

I've done that a few times, bought 2nd hand things to save paying stupid money at the dealers,

when the bits have turned out to be fcuked i've wasted the money and then ended up buying the new stuff from dealers

sounds like the releif valve is stuck , very comon problem , or mabey the oil pump gears have broke , dont bother fitting another bottom end just brake the car and sell it in bits , you have lost to much money already and your car is not selling , but thats my opionon

True.

I'm kicking myself now for going as far as top end rebuild, and not looking at the bottom end.

Thing is, i've got receipts from the kid for pistons & stuff, and the pistons were in good nick, i just wonder if its been put back together badly or with shit parts.

Sigh. Just when things were getting better!

At least i didnt sell it, jesus, i would have looked like a right dick selling it, then a few days later the bottom end blowing

does mil light go out above idle? Is it tapping and not knocking? Take relief valve out and give it a quick clean and light sand.

Thing is, there isnt that much to the car really, its a shell with a cage, two seats & an engine, and that isnt even working right now!

Nic, the oil light is only on at idle, and its not on solid, it flickers, comes on stong, goes off a bit, if you get what i mean?

The top end is tapping a bit more than it was, and at certain revs theres a wierd rattle noise coming from down below.

Worth taking the relief valve out i guess, its the 24mm on the pump isnt it?

aye its tricky due to the spring as you dont have much space to get hands in etc. Should go in though. If its been stuck, and it runs ok again give it a couple oil and filter changes.

Rocker cover is standard, i did have a powdercoated one, but that was on the outside only.

Nick, i've ran it again and when it gets hot its got the death rattle, and the oil light is on at idle again.

Gutted as when it was cold i thought it was fixed.

Sump off tomorrow to investigate the damage.
