I got given one of these yesterday and didn't notice
I'm not sure where I got it from and don't know what to do. I can't afford to loose it at the moment and the banks will just take it off me
How do you think I could get rid without loosing out?

You could try a change machine in a bowling alley - it might not take it though.
How bad is the fake? Go somewhere where they never check.

its terrible, I can't believe I didn't spot it .... the ink is rubbing off where it says "Bank of England" and someone has used that clear pen on it that leaves a yellowish mark if its fake

Shops are supposed to try and keep it I think. But when I worked in Spar I told them to keep the notes as I didn't want to get beaten up.
I know change machines go on the weight as well as size for coins - you might be alright with the note though.

well I will give it a go next time I fill up, if they notice I will just say "don't be silly, let me see" and switch it.
Hopefully they won't ....

of course what would you do give away a 40p mars bar (costing them lets say 25-30p) or give someone £49.60 change plus loosing another £50 with a dodgy note totalling £99.60 makes sense.
Although I got given one once before and was in the same position, thinking wtf I dont want to loose £20 so I went to tesco and found someone who looked quite new on the tills and paid with it no problems I scrunched it up some to make it look well used. you know they are atleast insured to loose that money where as some small shop wont be

Where are you getting £99.60 from? If they give £49.60 in change and then can't get rid of the note, they've lost £49.60 plus a mars bar. Nothing more.

Lol yes, spend it with great difficulty. Down south you really do get some total retards, looking at a scottish note as though its a porno card. Or maybe all, is in your case are just ignorant.

Yeah legally you can retain them to stop them circulating I think...
Spotted a couple of fakes in my last job, I swear the same idiot thought he'd try it on twice on the same night

That's not fair really, we hardly see scottish notes down here, and I couldn't tell the difference between real and fake because I wouldn't know what one looked like in the first place. Hardly makes me a retard - I'd rather check with someone who might know what to look for, that get a reprimand of some kind over it.

I had someone have a right go at me for this on friday. She gave a scottish £5 note. I hardly ever get them and I wouldn't know a fake from a real one so I said I just need to get someone to quickly check it for me. She then went off on one saying "its fucking legal, its says sterling so you have to accept it" blah blah. I felt like saying I know I work for Sports Direct but I can fucking read you stupid bint Turns out it was fine as I expected but I don't want an ear bashing for my till being down because I've taken a dodgy note.
Then I gave the scottish note to another customer as change who then kicked off because they apparently wouldn't be able to use it anywhere and he demand a different one!
About the fake notes though, If we find one we either take it off them or write FAKE on the note with a clear pen if they want it back. As said just take it somewhere you know they don't check
