American banks started lending to millions of people who couldn't afford it.
Americans defaulted on mortgages, american banks started going down the pan.
British banks paniced and realised they'd been doing the same thing = run on Northern Rock who were in the worst position = rest of the banks even more scared.

No no, that was what pulled the UK out of recession.
It was Will Doyle's talk of taking out a 3k loan to buy a £500 corsa over 4 years that stopped the banks lending & started the recession!!

Like has been mentioned, the BBC are to blame for a large proportion of the bullshit in this country the recession included.
