Hey, im after a classic shape scooby for abit of fun during the summer. After driving my mates early wrx type RA i fancy one! been looking at p1's but they are alittle pricey still and i dont plan on keeping one for long period, got budget of 4-5k at the most id consider anything cheaper if in good conditon. Im not sure which are the best ones to get ?? is the red top engine the best ?? has forged pistons or something ?? my friends one is the light weight tin can with nothing on it at all no central locking radio, electric windows etc.. dont think i could live with that but in standard form its quick has closer ratio diffs too . is there something better ?
thanks

for 4-5k id be looking at type r's, sti type ra's or slighty cheaper option of a wrx type ra,
got a wrx type ra myself, use it daily and never get bored of driving it

The ones woth the red inlets are sti's. They "should" have solid lifter heads and closed deck blocks.
For 5k you would be looking at a type r that hasnt been well looked after tbh.

Try and get a Type R. The P1 is just a watered down version of it.

I have had both a classic sti and blobeye sti. Still want another too! For me I would have a sti type ra or type r next. In White preferably!

But the TR has a closer ratio gear box and stiffer springs. And Prodrive removed the two pot rear brakes for single pots. Basically the Type R is more of a drivers car. Hence the saying "watered down". I mean who needs ABS

Damm, the Type R is out of my budget too!! guess il go for the wrx type ra for the summer, ive won one on ebay the other night just need to go collect it from manchester lol , i surpose sometimes you just have to travel for these cars heres the link let me know what you think, it looks like a good base to start with, only real pain is no central locking

its high mileage.
Its not an STI - BUT it should have a good enough 'closed deck' block whish are worth a fair bit if you do blow it up! (I just paid £500 for an empty closed deck block to replace the multiple semi closed decks I have)
If it sounds wrong just walk away.

imo its not just better setup for uk roads, i guess this comes from the lack of dccd but my m8 has a type r and he never even uses it.

Good god man didn't you read the thread?
Type R has:
DCCD
Shorter ratio gearbox
Stiffer springs
No ABS
IC Waterspray
Two pot rear calipers instead of single pot.
When saying it's watered down, it's basically not as hardcore.
