What to do/keep
GSi drinks to much fuel, which is my biggest out going each month, as i am leaving my job i need to save money in this area (spend about £300 in fuel last 3 weeks driving/doing track days)
Yesterday picked up a half decent astra coupe se2 1.8, needs abit of work but was a bargin, looks nice, be cheaper to run, but im not sure how much cheaper?
one thing it doesnt have is cruise control, which i should beable to add for £30, is lowered and has a almost quite backbox, and once fixed will still owe me sub £1k for a £2-2.5k car
Only thing is doing a europe trip, unsure weather the 1.8 would cut it? sometimes you just want something quicker
if some one comes up with the money for the gsi i would sell, if not il slowly sell bits and put standard ish to get my money back then sell at a cheaper price, dunno which to keep
all comes down to running costs,

Well no but you did mention a possibility of selling/putting back to standard, in which case you wouldn't get anymore money for it with it on so would be better off selling it separate...hence the question.

wasnt going to be sold on it anyway
il let you know if its for sale!
only thing gavin, i wouldnt be able to put up with that exhasut for 2500miles, needs a center box!
yeah thinking of using for the trip then selling after, as i know it will be reliable!
question is, to i sell the coupe, make my money or then keep the coupe....

GSi stands you 5k and the coupe 1k.
There's 4k in your hand.
Then there's the fuel saving. It's not much but it will be better.
Day to day the drive will be similar. Sure you'll miss the power but there will be other ZLETs about in the future.
Money wise the GSi would be going.

Or if the coupe will sell for 2k make another grand and find something else cheap out of your 5k profit.

if i realy needed to save money, i could just use the bike
plus within the next month the B will be back on the road = more tax/insurance/fuel costs
the deciding factor is, do i want to take a 1.8 on a europe road trip? i know the gsi is realible, everything is good, been fixed/replaced there is nothing wrong with that car/engine, i know it wont breake down (touch wood)

Finish the astra coupe, sell it then use the profit for fuel!! Would be a real shame to sell it, have you already put it up for sale btw (the Gsi) the kid who wants his Gsi mapped said he saw one for sale in Kent, the advert said something like 'don't be put off by high milage'

A few of us did a eurotrip in 2 gsi's last year! Brilliant car to do it in! Cruise on a 90 all the way through europe with the odd 150 mph blat. still averaged about 30 mpg, thats was both of them (one was what lil g owns now and the another remapped on). The mapped one did have a centre box and wasnt loud?

As much as i love the GSI , sell it and run the coupe in Europe. You can still have fun with the 1.8 in Europe, the gf and i drove all the way down to south of France (Frejus) in my 1.6 and had a great time hammering it down there!

wtf are you talking about
warren clearly doesn't want/need the gsi anymore, and saying ''keep the gsi and don't be gay'' hardly helps him...
and i didn't have to go down a particular route at all, i just prefer to grow up and have my own independence rather than live off my mum and dad 'til i'm 30 or 40 etc

As much as I love red Gsi's I think the sensible option here is to sell the Gsi and pocket the change and use the coupe instead.
If I was in your shoes it would kill me to make a profit on selling the coupe and having to spend all that profit on petrol.
You still have the Corsa for the fun side of things, where as the coupe can be made to be a nice cruiser for the trip, like you said add cruise control and a few touches of your own to the coupe and you're away.
