Just got a letter through saying my car has been on the road with no tax.

Its been to an MOT and back then MOT re-test and back then once to work and thats it.

I assume I'm ok for the MOT ones but do they have to have proof for these letters I know its the fookers next door to me have done this they have a son in the police so guess he could of checked the car over on the plice system.

Anyone else been through this?

Jonny you're getting highly annoying with your sarcy comments, if you haven't got anything decent to say don't say anything at all.

Stu_22 - Just say you were taking it to get it MOT'd, (as you need a up to date MOT Test Certificate to get a new tax disc.)

How is it sarcastic? The law is your car CANNOT under any circumstances be on the public highway without tax. Doesn't matter if it's going for an MOT or not. Even if it's parked outside your house. If it's not off the road, it needs to be declared sorn or you'll get done by the police if they see it.

I think you will find that you can drive without tax to an MOT station. If your car has no MOT how are you supposed to get tax?

I was told by a police officer that without tax you can do the following:

Drive to a pre-booked MOT.

Drive to a garage for MOT related repairs if the car is booked in.

I did both of these about a month ago.

If you can prove your car was booked in to be MOT'D when the complaint was made, then your fine, but if you've been driving it about anyway, your shafted.

If it's just the once then it does stink to have been caught but those are the rules. I'm not going to go all wise-ass on you because I think the road tax system is a complete joke and congratulates people who abuse the system but nevertheless, if you've used the car then the fine is valid.

Out of interest, how does it compare to paying tax? Cheaper I imagine?
