Whatever you do Adam dont use the oil filter wrench to tighten it, filters should be run up by hand then a good firm quarter turn there after.
Or you know someome (Me) who has all the stuff and you can swing by whenever and i can do it for you

Halfords trade or local motor factors.
Old tub or bottle of some kind. Old oil bottles do the trick!
Local hardware shop for one of those things to remove jar lids.
Will save you a load of money on parts and all do the same job

Ive said it many times before, it really isnt worth skimping on a jack or axle stands, they are they only to thing lifting and holding a big weight up and above your head when you are underneath.

Jack i understand, had one or two cheap ones fall.
Axle stands, IMO are usually preety safe, most have some form of locking bits that the cars weight forces to stay together.

Oil filter wrench = your hand or a screwdriver and chisel in to it to spin it.
Oil catch tray = any old washing up bowl or the old bottle cut in half
Axle stands - Halfords, trade if you can wing it.

That's what I've always done until now, until I got underneath mine and realised it was a paper filter so you have to undo it properly. Out came the monkey wrench onto it's maximum setting. Considering it's only meant to be done up to 35nm it took alot of swearing to remove. God damn modern engines.
And all my stuff is Halfords, was about £45 for the jack axle stands etc

i find that when using the screw driver method things can start to get messy!!for the sake of £10 u may as well buy a filter removing tool. u will be using it many times so it will pay for itself really.
