got all the contract through yesterday so once we sign it it's legally binding etc etc.
only thing is in the paperwork they have said their audi a4 convertible (newest shape) was stolen from their driveway in november 2009. they took the keys and it was most likely stolen to order.
now i believe that, as it's happened to loads of people with nearly new and prestigous cars, but now my girlfriend is really worried as she'll have to be in the house alone when i'm on night shift.
they never bothered telling us about this. when i asked them why they are selling the house, they said they wanted to save some money up and move in with the blokes brother for a bit.
now this has pissed me off.
the sole reason they broke into their house was for the keys for the car, they didn't steal anything else and it could happen anywhere.
but what should i do? just buy a decent cctv/burglar alarm and hope for the best?
if we pull out now, we'll be nearly £3000 down due to the fees and deposits left.

Could happen anywhere, I wouldn't let it stop me from moving in.
Sadly if someone wants something they will do there very best to get it, weather it be breaking into a house or carjacking you as you get in the car.

I wouldn't let something like that stop me buying the house, the car was stolen, and just cause the car was stolen, doesn't automatically mean that this is the reason for moving.

They don't have to tell you someone has stolen the car to order, not the sort of thing you'd tell people, even if you were normally an honest person.

i'm not worried myself about buying the house, but she is.
i know they don't have a burglar alarm so that'd be the first job.
will also buy her a dog if it comes to it, just as a deterrant 
i can understand where she is coming form though as it's happened down my parents road and houses here are 300k-400k so it's not like it's a bad area or anything.

I've just remembered she's from EK, she should be able to deal with a simple burglar looking for some keys.

I would not worry about it Ben, it could happen to yourself at any time regardless of where you live or what security measures you have in place.
These things happen in life & you've just got to accept its part of modern society, just tell your girlfriend that if anyone breaks in just let them have what they want...its all insured at the end of the day, & like you said whoever broke in was only there for the car.
Whats to make her feel more secure in another property apposed to this one??

Why is that sort of thing on the paperwork anyway.........I wouldnt have thought it's the type of thing that would be on the paperwork while exchanging contracts 
I would just stick it to the back of your minds, honestly or you'll fall out of this & struggle to get the momentum up again to find somewhere else. Is it really worth it just because someone's high end motor was pinched. I dont think it is.

could happen in any area ben, wouldnt not buy a house on that basis, i very much doubt they will come and steal keys for a car that isnt even on the drive when your not there ?

Don't let it worry you.
Get a dog sign, if you don't want a dog.
And get the burglar alarm. My mum has a panic button by her bed for when she is home alone.
You've got shonky old Puma now too - they could knick it without the keys

Couple of the house on the new build i currently live on have been robbed so i'm told. One they left the door open and went out, even walked past a couple of skallys...  What do they expect? A cup of tea made for them and a nod from the gang on the way back in. Other one i'm not sure about.
I have an alarm, home insurance and live on the third floor. I don't even leave me car here as it's always parked up at my Mum's. Van is out when i'm out.
I'm pretty sure you guys will be safe - i.e. not leave keys on a hook next to your front door etc. There's also the option for a panic button as already mentioned.

If they want the car, they'll take it wherever it's parked.
If you don't have a flash car on the path, the house itself isn't the risk.

Agreed, its a very minor issue tbh. If you were to look at the official statistics (which Im 100% sure are more optimistic than reality) it says a car (or something in a car) is nicked on average every 15 seconds??? Happens anywhere and everywhere

yeah no one is going to steal the puma but hopefully will be getting a better car in a few months as it's too small for me really and no good on motorways due to no 6th gear.

at 70mph in 5th gear, i can't hear myself think in the puma, it's not funny. drives me crazy don' mind it for the town driving but motorways is a no go, i like quiet cars for cruising.

I live in a 0 crime area, if there is any crime its normally sheep rustling or farmers fighting one another. A ca was stolen off my drive, I live in a village which is 20/25minutes from the enarest town. Lovely area, nice houses and families fo all ages. The perfect location for people to target.
The fact is, it wouldn't put me off living here, but I would make extra efforts to ensure I felt safe and mroe importantly my other half felt safe. Even if thats reinforcing the lcoks/alarms on the house its worth it. Essentially it doesn't matter where you are, a car can get stolen if someone wants it enough
