As the title says,
I've been looking for a good one for a while now and have finally found one and just want to know a few things,
The conversion hasn't yet been declared to the dvla and apart from the obvious of filling out the V5 with the relevant info will I need to send an engineers report with it to confirm the engine is actually in the car ? I have heard some people had to where as some haven't ??
What's the economy like with them ? How many miles am I likely to see from a full tank of fuel driving it steady ?
Are they reliable ? Obviously things go wrong from time to time and break but It would be used everyday so the reliability is quite important
My main concern is MOT time, the car is a yr2000 (X) and has the later coilpack xe in it so I'm asuming it will need a cat on the exhaust to pass emissions ?

I am quite knowledgeable with corsa's and the xe conversions and always fancied a redtop since I drove my brothers xe nova but any aditional info would be much apreciated

Thanks

V5 - If it's already a 1.6, fill in new engine number on v5 and sent it to dvla. Will remain in same tax bracket (price) so no dramas.

If it's changing tax bracket, i.e. it's currently under 1600cc, take the docs to your local dvla office and they'll sort it all out for you.

It's hit and miss with engineers report, if you get asked just make one on your pc.

Economy is probably better than a 1.6 sport tbh. Can drive the xe like a diesel (you wont though!) it will pull in 5th at 30mph......

I used to get 250+ miles to a tank, 90% driving around the doors with a good few 130mph+ blasts when having a play.

It will need a cat on newer engine iirc but you just need to find a friendly MOT tester if it fails

P.S. It will be reliable if it has been converted properly and well serviced. Remember these are built to be driven hard and alot of them are dogs.

The engines can take abuse though, the only problems i had were sensor and wiring related. No dramas really.

Thanks for that info,
It seems to be a no expense conversion by the spec sheet, CA mounts, equal length shafts, propperly wired, coilovers, scorpion exhaust etc etc
The car was a 1.0 12v originally with 77k and the engine has done 75k with a cambelt, waterpump and service before the conversion so it all seems pretty good.

I think I will go and view it and see if it is as good as the ad says.

Thanks

That's what the ad says so I'm not 100% sure but I'm asuming a full car (cav gsi) was bought as a donor

True, I just want it to be reliable that's all, I'll have to go and have a look at it and see what it's like.

Doubt many can prove the mileage.

My XE corsa had the clocks matched up to the engine and had all previous MOTs plus service history from the Calibra donor car, engine was on 118k and healthy as fook yet when it came to selling it I got tons of emails from chavs saying "thts propa high mileage mate, ill give u £700" lmao

mate went to see it on sunday. Bodge job arches with tiger seal spewing over. The wing is bent out further than the door. The wiring is a rats nest. Theres over spray on the seat weres hes sprayed the sills with a rattle can the slam pannel has been bent back. The side of the car is not a good spray job. So as you can imagine for that money you wouldnt. Ask cjohnson for more details
