The extra £180 and £5 a month means I wouldn't even have to think about it.

It'll probably be exactly the same price as the current iphone, they 3gs will just be available on cheaper contracts.

This is the reason I'm currently waiting for a desire to be delivered

The 'new' Iphone will just have a similar spec to the Desire but with the inflated cost of Apple accessories and apps.
Why wait? Get the Desire.

If you want the iPhone just wait until the new one comes out (so 3gs will be cheaper/free) and in the mean time go on a rolling 30-day contract. If you're renewing then you'll be able to get the iPhone upgrade for free.

Having got my desire same time as 2 friends got there iPhone I'm glad I went with what I did. Personally I think Google apps and Android are going to be the next big thing

the fact that youre considering an iphone means you'll be disappointed if you choose anything else.
dont lt the cost put you off its worth it for how much you'll use it.
end of the day android is a second best wannabe, and all the handsets can do is brag about how powerful the phones are yet every android phone ive used has been slower in operation than my iphone.

What android phones have you used?
Old ones with the slower processors, I take it you've not used any of the newer ones such as the desire.
Why would you be dissapointed also? What does the iphone do that the desire doesn't?

Im having the same descision at the moment.
Iphone is more expensive. The htc is obivously the "better" device but it just lacks any kind of decent user experience IMO John before you start. I do however like the bronze colour and the amoled screen though

Interfaces are a matter of opinion, I don't mind people liking the iphone, I like some wierd stuff myself.
Saying android is a wannabe and the phones are slower just shows he doesn't know what he's talking about though.

g1, magic, hero and desire.
android is a result of the iphone, it was introduced to compete whichever way you look at it, and it just isnt as good.
as long as you dont jump on the bandwagon of hating anything mainstream and trying to be different you wont beat an iphone for all round functionality, and tomtom is better than any google map

Disagree with the tomtom bit, i have both. Have you actually used the navigation since it went live in the last week or two?
I have a couple of ipods too which i use every day but i don't like being having no other option than to use Apple software, with minimal input over the settings and features. I would have gone for the iphone if they weren't pissing about over release dates etc and refuse to pay over the odds too!

I can only compare my Desire to the missus' Iphone 3G - my desire wins hands down. Its faster, has a bigger screen, more features, list goes on.
Yea the battery life isnt great, but a leather case + car charger is £7 delivered off ebay and it will charge from any USB port at work.
To be honest though, any device which MUST use iTunes I would throw away anyway, biggest pile of shite (apart from possibly Norton) ive ever come across
Whilst im not knocking the iPhone, its a very expensive piece of kit for what it is

umm strange I like Itunes and could never compare it to Norton at all. Also Itunes manages all music, apps, contacts mail etc all in one place so whats wrong with that?
