My drivers side/front wheels has play in it?
when the wheel is fitted it has quite a lot of wobble! I took the wheel off and the disc has movement in it ( but i thought it is meant to )
Im not too sure what this could be, and was wondering if anyone could suggest anything as again i'm stuck without a car ?
Thanks!

Isn't this something to do with the bearings?

Thats what i was thinking?? you reckon replace them? if thats the case its just a matter of taking off the castle nut, undo'ing the bigger bolts on the brakes (standard gsi brakes) removing the disc and then takin old ones off and putting new one on isnt it?

this was my problem^ i thought i hadnt fitted my coilovers correctly, so took them off just before MOT, fitted standard suspension with 40mm springs, then find out the wheel i had play in, the wheel bearings had gone.

Yeah see i wasn't sure if it was my coilovers as they have only been put on very recently... i didnt think the wheel bearings would make it go loose and wobble, assumed it would just make a horrible noise! anyone know cheap places to get parts like wheel bearings? £35 on one website... must be cheaper places!

Try jacking it up and seeing where the play is. Could be in the track rod end or ball joint. I don't think it will be the bearing personally.

when i wobbled it, the play seemed to be where the outer cv meets the 'hub' / Brake discs etc?

jack it up and wobble your wheel and look at the ball joint and the track rod, if theres any movement in them its one of them. i recon it will be one of them tbh mate

iirc movement left to right is track rod end. movement up and down is ball joint.

okay, thanks alot, tonight i will check tonight, see i think if i remeber rightly, it kind of goes in and out, i did watch both the track rod and ball joints and didn't notice any movement there, it was more to do with where the driveshaft is?!!
when i get home after work i will check and update!

Check the strut-to-hub bolts are tight (the two at the bottom of the strut) with a torque wrench if you have access to one. A normal spanner won't give you enough leverage or any idea of how tight it is.

Which bit stays still and which bit moves?

on the driveshaft, the bit close the the wheel ( it has like a 'teeth' affect on it going all the way round the driveshaft... well that bit moves slightly away from the hub, and the disc wobbles too! its quite hard to explain without looking at it!

wont be the ball joint or track rod end in that case.
Edit: try and get pics as it may help.

Sounds like a bearing to me. Does your wheel making a high pitched whirring noise when driving? For the sake of £8 from a motorfactors it might be worth replacing anyway.

i will replAce the bearings, if thats not it i will go down the route of changing track rod and ball joints! the play is between the disc and shaft so im thinking/hoping bearings!
