Okay, my dad bought me a diamond ring with a platinum band for my 21st. It's custom made so it cost a fair whack. However, being the complete bloody idiot that I am, I left it in the pocket of my uniform because I forgot to take it off for work, and it ended up I'm the washing machine. The metal is scratched and tarnished now and I'm well and truly heartbroken. Now, does anyone know if a jeweller can polish that all out or is it likely I've really damaged it? It's surface scratches, but I'm worried it may have damaged the diamond too. The ring is insured, but I don't want to tell my dad incase I upset him. I really am an idiot.

Can probably polish it up yourself.

A washing machine shouldn't be able to damage a diamond though.

That's fine then. The diamond looks fine, doesn't seem scratched, but I don't have bionic eyes so was worried I was missing something. The ring is worth over £2000 though, I'd hope it was a real diamond!

no.

And because no one in Scotland owns anything worth more than £50 unless it can be snorted, injected or drank.

If you place a drop of water on a real diamond it will bead, if it's fake it will run off it and the only thing that can scratch or damage a real diamond is, another diamond
