I think....

I was on it for a short spell today. Pretty impressive. Shell's Perdido spar.

Over 8000ft (something like 2500m) of water to the sea bed! Hard to imagine... and not very popular out in the GoM just now I'd think!

Yeah its floating structure fixed to the seabed, Similar idea to a turret on an FPSO I guess. Not sure i'd like to work/live on something that moves about, hence the sarcastic remark about the legs.

its anchored to the seabed with chains.

Drill rig next (4km away) uses DP to stay in location... sensors on the seabed, but no physical moorings

When you think about it its mad that companies go through all this and we moan about having to pay £1 odd a litre for petrol. But then i guess they wouldnt do it if they didnt make any money.

Oil from a well like this is VERY expensive to produce. I think its producing 130000 bpd
