I got caught speeding doing 58 in a 50 by a the camera.. Got a letter through saying the details of when and where it was etc and had to fill in the back of the letter with my details. On the letter it says photo/video evidence will be shown in a court hearing.

Any idea of what the outcome will be?

A few people said if I was going to get points and a fine it would of been on the letter they sent?

You can still be given points in Court. At most it'll be 3 and a £60 fine.

Edit: Was it a Gatso? If so, might be worth a punt going out and measuring the distance between the lines. Anything's worth a go to get off with it really.

One of the fixed Camera's. The ones where there are white lines across the road. If it was a van though, you've had it!

Why do they ask you to explain your reasons? What a stupid question is that.

The only valid reason is that you are part of the emergency services on the way to an incident surely?

i think if you can prove you are taking your wife to hospital to have a baby then you could get off aswell.

no one wants placenta in their passenger footwell. that's just not cool.

mucks the camera up

Fair enough then, taking the missus to hospital might be valid. I'm sure they could cover it with tick boxes though

1. Emergency service person
2. Taking someone to hospital + evidence
3. Chased by the mafia

Not quite Eck, I got caught by a video van on the way up to Crail in Feb 2009. I got a letter from the Fyfe and something constbulary asking if it was me driving at that point and I sent it away saying yes. I got the other letter saying I've got 3 points and a £60 fine to get.

But in my time between sending the first letter away and receiving the second I read on the net that when they are doing video vans they don't have enough time to process the evidence needed for two thirds of the cases they send letters out about - basically they have a certain amount of time (a week iirc, mine came after 3 days anyway) to send out the letters and process the evidence. So for all the ones that they know they've caught they send out letters but can only process the evidence for a third of them - but if you admit you did it and send the cash they don't need to prove anything. For example, if they catch 90 people speeding one day they need to process all of those cases within a certain time, but they physically can't. But instead of not sending the letters out they just chance it to see who'll admit it fully.

Basically, I didn't send the second letter away and got away with it.

do the letters need a signature at the door before they can be posted because if they dont you can easily say you never recieved anything. if they do just ignore the postman chapping, lol.

I got caught at 55 in a 40, was 3points £60 fine, but that was a car hiding at the side of a bush. Not a fixed camera.
