i have some bent alloys wheel to scrap, but know the scrap man will pay me for them, he dug himself a hole when trying to sell me alloys, telling how much he could get by weighing them in, so had to charge me a certain amount to buy them.
i turned round and said well i'll be bringing the old ones here then

Yep, dodgy bastards. I know people that do it and it's been going on for decades.
The trouble is these days, rather than it being useful it's a nusiance as they are usually scouting the area looking for stuff to steal in the middle of the night.
When we had a skip on our drive everytime anything was put in an hour later it was gone.
Fucking scumbags.

It is annoying, its more so now as the price per tonne is up again. On a pub nearby that is being refurbed has/had a sign up saying 'all items of value have been removed including copper pipes and metal you pikey bastards'

they can make quite a good bit of money from it now-a-days so for some i guess its more of a career so probs not going to have things stolen.
not to different from window cleaners i presume, just people trying to get a bit of cash, all you need is a scrap waste card for a couple of £100 pounds.

They get so desperate though, picking up a length of copper about 4 inches long and pleading with me to take it.
Fucking disgusting bastards.

Yes indeed, apart from Rag & Bone men used to be handy decent people, these are just chavs in pickups rummaging through peoples rubbish and clocking anything else you might have in the garage.

A cattle grid doesnt really count as security.
