Been after a new car a while now and nothing is really taking my fancy (im very picky) and still love me little corsa but still fancy a little upgrade nothing silly ect just something for day to day run abouts to work and back and so was thinking of putting the corsa away in my garage to get a few jobs do and use it as weekend/ summer toy.
But the question is whats the best and cheapest way of running 2 cars with one been a weekend toy?

mutlicar policy for insurance, admiral have proved good price for me.
you have to pay tax twice, can't get around that.
depends on the cars, i know for a fact that me driving the escort or the fiat i had have saved me money/maintainence on the corrado, and i can work on the corrado now without rushing things to get it back on the road.
sounds strange, but i really believe for me, 2 cars works out cheaper than one

can also specify limited mileage on your weekend car

i just insure them both separately with the corsa being on a limited mileage policy

Admiral multi car is alright if they will insure the week end car.
They wouldn't insure the corsa fr obvious reasons, so the vec is inured through admiral on multicar and the corsa through a specialist.
Altho I havn't put another car on the multi policy yet.

I started a new policy with Brentacre last month so changing insurance companies is out the window really.
Do Brentacre allow 2 cars on one policy does anyone know?

i just bought a corsa gsi as a run about for the week, driving the m5 costs me £100 a week in fuel, thats 250 miles, plus tyres, oil, brakes etc! so a corsa which should cost me about £1000 to buy, new brakes, full service, belt, mot etc is hopefully going to save me much money in the long run!

Does it normally cost much more to add another car to your current policy?
Im not really a mechanically minded person but having a second car would be a good way of not being scared of attempting to do things myself and not having to rush things while learning at the same time.
The only slight concern is im still a temp at work and have been so for 15months but if all goes tits up i have some savings that would help me out until i get another job.
Is it a wise choice do you think?

hi
i run two cars? my day to day car is a skoda felicia and the fun car my JDM ITR. Running 2 cars is ok i find. only issue is the insurance some times. When u get a second car remeber you have 0 no claims again. so one car will have full NCD and the other 0. At first i both had insured with flux but now the day to day car is with admiral. Multicar dont work with me as the ITR is imported and modified. But i do have limited millage on the itr and unlimited on the skoda

If your just wanting a runabout then go for a diesel. My 2nd car is a diesel and is mega cheap to run. Just paid £30 for a years tax, £160 for a years insurance and I get 400 miles to a tank taking it easy.

no offence intended but i really dont see the point in keeping a slightly modified corsa as a weekend 'toy'
Id just sell up and get something better u can drive everyday

i agree with this part, corsa is easily replaced and not really going to be worth while keeping it in a garage, unless its sentimental value

It's a honda, famed for reliability, it's not something you need to keep under wraps and drive a felicia for.

i actaully brought the skoda before the integra as i needed a car for work. This is still the case i need a car i can leave on the street for work and not worry about. Also saves wear and tear on the parts on the honda as they are not exactly the cheapest. Also the integra is not comfy to be sat in in traffic due to the suspension and harnesses and being stripped out. Also means when doing work on it i dont need to rush to make sure the car is back on the road in time. Also makes you appreciate the car when going for a drive or on the track.

brentacre were good with s2k and the 328i,
limited milage on the 328 but mirrored my ncb so i could use them on both policies! and were still cheaper than anywhere else.
my situation doesnt really apply as there two impractical cars with two seats, but yeah tax twice is a bitch, MOT aswell

I understand what you both are saying.
The way im looking at it is that it is my first car and have had it just gone 4 years and its worth a lot more to me that what i would get if a split or sold it on.
A couple of cars that sprung to my mind for a day to run around was a MK4 astra 1.6 or 1.8 or corsa C 1.8 or 1.7 cdti,have not really had a good look around on AT for other ideas.

I have a slight advantage with having a garage so could possibly take one off the road if the worst did happen.
Its just something im thinking about doing but not 100% sure what i wanna do yet.
