Basically insured my Nova fully legit with them in May. Engine conversion 160bhp limit, coilovers, big brakes, roll cage, wheels, strut brace. The works.
Bought a 12volter to rag around the winter, just rang to change the car on the policy. Sweet.
At the end of the conversation i asked how much the policy has dropped by and he said it won't drop because its on a modified car policy
So i'm now paying £1500 to run around a 1litre shitter.
Anybody else had this problem?

Why didn't you just keep the insurance running on the nova and get a new policy on the 12v

Because the tax had ran out, thats another £120 for something i won't be driving for the next few months.
New polilcy would of meant another deposit which i don't have.

As John G said, surely you can ask to drop the power limit and it'll lower the premium? I started my policy with Brentacre on my 60bhp Ibiza and they said they'd just put my power limit up to 120bhp when i rang to change into on my Corsa to save me some money.

Actually, he mentioned that he's moved it onto a normal car policy but wasn't going to charge me the transfer fee thing.
It might be cheaper to put it back on a modified policy and tell them its been modded?

they dont insure the car they insure via the bhp limit as it if you wanted throttle boddies youd phone them up and up the cap to 200bhp and the £1500 would then rise, so surely you could say the 12v is only ...BHP i wanna lower the policy to 100bhp

the transfer fees only like £25 i think so you might be better asking to lower the bhp bracket and keeping it in modified insurance and paying the transfer fee

Yeah, transfer fee wasn't much when i was changing cars on my policy, my previous limit was 30bhp less than it is now and it was about £20 cheaper a month. So going from 160bhp to say a 70/80bhp limit would save you a fair bit of money i'd of thought

I had this wanted the policy to stay the same when I went from a group 16 to a group 6 car. Made them play ping pong with the insurance company till they came back with a suitable refund. Just goes to show if you dont as you dont get!
However on a plus point they matched my lowest quote at renewal time on the A3 and even lowered my excess to £250 all in!

Seriously just ring up and say you are not happy and you need reimbursing. If they dont reimburse you, you will cancel the policy on this basis. I gurantee they will come back to you with a refund.
Also dont accept the first offer make them go back to the insurer until its substancial enough.

Shouldn't even be that expensive if you set up a new policy with no bonus. Did you check it out as a new quote entirely? I know you said you don't have a massive deposit but not everywhere needs one. Or if you have a credit card you can bang it on, probably work out cheaper than insurance company APR anyway.
