Is the engine in the Cooper S the same as the Cooper but only with a S/Charger (or Turbo depending on age?)

The supercharged engines are based on the predecessor of the turbo engines and there are significant differences between the forced and na engines so a simple bolt on job is out the question...

You want to upgrade to the S engine? IF so you'll need management too which also (as its a modern car) means replacing and re-programming all the other bits, its cheaper and simpler to buy a Cooper S.

Just get a Cooper S - will be easier, cheaper to do and cheaper on insurance. Although they are far from cheap to insure!

And bolting a supercharger on to a normal Cooper is far from cheap too! Although from what I remember, we had an argument about your "forgetfulness" for declaring mods to insurance at the beginning of the year!

tbf the likeliness of me buying a charger is slim to none just wondering what the possibilities are. I forgot everyone tells their insurance everything

I do declare everything, and pay a fair premium for it, that's why I get fcuked off that others don't!
Apart from the fact I've had to fork out near on £2k to fix some quite pricey components on it, I love it - best car I've owned for definite. Just a shame that it has the BMW price tag for maintenance and running costs lol.

yeah i know what you mean mate. im looking at them as more 'grown up' cars anyway so mods would be minimal.

Even just a Cooper will be a massive step up from a 1.2 Corsa.

32mpg if driven very carefully, around 250 - 270 miles to a tank of £50 - £55 V-Power lol. Fuel light comes on from just under 1/4 tank left

The supercharged engines are a reminiscence of the mess Rover managed to make of marketing and selling this car.

thats not too bad really i suppose. a standard Cooper must be a bit more frugal then. You would not believe how much fuel this 1.2 8v uses so im sure it wont affect me too much

Proper Cooper S's are still quite considerably cheaper to insure than the JCW version too.
About £300 in some cases - I was able to get quotes of £650ish for a standard Cooper S, 5 years NCB, 23 etc.
I eventually ended up with Greenlight who will insure me for £797.50 a year with the JCW upgrade declared.
