Strongly looking at one of these for the next car. MK4. Tempted by the SE2 in the blue colour or the terra rossa edition ones.

Both editions seem to come with 3 different engine. 1.8, 2lTurbo or the 2.2 model.

What would you say the best overall engine is- Fuel Consumption, performance and reliability. Have heard the 2.2 engines aint great?

And anything to look out for when viewing?

Cheers!

Linea Rossa.

I had a 2.2 and a turbo and preferred the turbo.

Considering the cars are similar prices anything smaller wouldn't really feature for me.

Linea rossa is the best model IMO, I had the 1.8 which out of the none turbo engines was the best all rounder in terms of performance/ running cost.

Get a red one

i would go for a turbo as the 1.8 is to underpowered and the 2.2 like to burn oil

Terra Rossa

But yeah do look good, ecspecially with the red interior. Did that edition come in the Turbo? much performance difference between that and 1.8?

Insurance wont be an issue.

I have a 2.2 astra with airbox mods, pre cat decat and full stainless exhaust and its a hell of alot better than i was expecting, on paper they sound pointless and not worth considering but im really impressed with mine, as long as the z22se has regular oil changes and has the revised oil feed to the timing chain the pretty dam strong, you just need to do regular oil level checks as some do burn a little oil. I havent driven a turbo coupe yet so can't comment on which is best but i really dont think there would be much in it although the turbo is obviously cheaper to get more bhp!

Get the turbo, get it mapped, lowered on some Eibach springs, and RARB.

yeah try and stay away from the 2.2. 1.8 are quite good, my mate fitted a manifold and full system to his and was quite nippy. 2.0t are great, i get an average of 30mpg out of mine so there not bad cars at all. just make sure it doesnt smoke

Mine's a Linea Rossa with the 1.8, it's not too bad but could probably do with being at least 2.0 ideally.

If insurance isn't an issue I'd be going for the turbo, prices seemed to have a dropped a lot recently so you can afford to be fussy.

I had a 2.2 SE2 Coupe - the blue one with blue and black leather/alcantara. Its pretty thirsty on the juice for the amount of power its got.

if doing it all again, i'd go for a 2.0 turbo fitted to a special edition such as the linea rossa. The base model "bertone" doesnt really cut it imo.

1800.. Best engine Ive owned.. In fact my Astra Coupe was the best car Ive ever owned. It never once let me down. Bought it 5 years ago on 25k and just sold it 2 weeks ago on 101k and all's I replaced was tyres and timing belt on intervals. Fantastic car and quick enough for a daily with cheap insurance

I have the 1.8 in my astra (Not a coupe, But the same engine as the coupe) and its pretty good. Pulls really well, Only thing I have had to replace was an EGR valve and the cabelt and waterpump.

Does great on a long run on fuel. Never bothered working out my MPG.

They do respomd well to simple mods. Just go for a drilled airbox with k&n panel filter, and a decent cat back exhaust and they liven up pretty well.

I had a Turbo, in standard form it was just 'ok' once mapped and a better set of springs it was a LOT better!

Surely if you were to tune an engine you may as well buy a turbo. More power as a start with

i had a 1.8 and it was fine, at 18 i couldnt insure a turbo so that was outta the question. if your looking for a a nice car with a bit of poke get a turbo.
