Right so im looking for a new daily car and am thinking about a astra coupe.
Dont want the turbo, to much for insurance and tbh im not bothered about the speed.
Just want it to look niceish, practical and relitavly goodish mpg.
Seen this one local and am just wondering on peoples thought, potential problems with the cars?

Yeah mine was standard, that one in the advert is almost certainly lowered.

yeah did see that, personally think its a bit pricey, possibly dare i say worth abotu £2,000 max.
The one on ebay im sure i could get for around £2,000 aswell, higher milage but newer and better model?
so its a chain driven engine then?
anyone know intervals for changing that?

Mines developed a rattle after the cold snap
An 1.8 is belt not chain, prone for waterpumps

I like the Astra Coupes, you would better going for the 1.8. Heard they are sore on fuel though for a 1.8. Too many problems with the 2.2. Go on this site for information.

Stick with the 1.8 wont let you down.
I've always got parts in for them, wheels, spoilers etc

eBay one looks tidy, seats aren't that worn for the mileage either.
Almost definitely lowered though.

He's just added a load more pics, looks very clean so worth a look really, talking to the guy at work today who used to work at vauxhall he knows a bit about them, says there all good apart from the timing chain recall due to too small oil jets on it. If that's been done it's all good, if not it's about £250 ish job.
Going to ring later and ask a few questions. All the 1.8's in my price range seem to be very high milage and don't look as nice, will go look at it and see what it's like. Then if I like it take my brother to haggle. His size and sales experience helps alot!

There is a lovely silver one on Autotrader at the moment with the 17's, spoiler and beige leather interior, 54 plate, 64k for £3,000 which I really want.

People say about the speed difference between the 2.2 16v and the 1.8 16v not being a lot but the 2.2 is so lovely to drive on the motorway, it's genuinely effortless as it goes along lovely power delivery and I remember when I was coming back from picking up Rachels GSi from Ipswich I had a quick play with a Clio 182 in my 2.2 16v Coupe and there wasn't much difference at all.
But pound for pound the 1.8 16v is the one to go for.
