My car is only running on 2 cylinders at the moment,The car is currently in my local garage but we are a bit puzzled with the problem now.

Spark plugs have been changed (Old plugs were sutty black)
HT Leads have been changed
The engine has compression & spark

Any one have an idea what could be causing 2 of the cylinders not to work correctly.

Any other suggestions?

Would an ecu fault not bring a EML up on the dash?

When coilpacks go they usually kill two cylinders.

ECU faults dont always come up on EML. Id change the coilpack first, Since its easy.

Does it make any difference whether the ECU replacement is out a X14XE or an X16XE as long as the ECU numbers on the sticker match up?

Well yeah as the x14 ecu will be mapped for a 1.4 and a x16 will be mapped for a 1.6.

Ok just wasn't sure.

Been up the garage and they have checked the coil pack and its ok so it just leaves the ECU now which there checking this morning, they said they usually send them away to be sorted but really the car back on the road asap.
