Saw this on Pistonheads, ties in on my own thoughts also.
Generally speaking I don't believe in any of this 'malevolent spirit returned from the dead' folklore, but I do think that one day, science will be able to explain things we term 'the paranormal', as I'm not sure that similar occurrences experienced by people repeatedly over hundreds of years can all be written off as nonsense, and keeping an open mind is essential to the pursuit of science.
I actually reckon temporal physics might eventually hold the answer. Something like string theory or the structure of time. I reckon it's entirely possible that time may have physical properties and time streams may occupy different structures at once. Yes, so the dominant part of our brain, in order to rationalise the world, filters out all but the linear past-present-future stream, but there may be the odd loop here and there, running the same bit of time back through itself repeatedly, and if there's a person's actions caught up in that loop and we occasionally see it as it bisects our linear time stream, we may think we're 'seeing a ghost'.
Writing it off and saying 'there's no such things as ghosts' is non-scientific to my mind. We used to think the weather was God's various moods and the stars were holes into heaven, and it took scientists working for the church trying to investigate it and prove the existence of the myth to discover the facts behind it. Writing off all 'paranormal experiences' as 'lies' is unscientific. Investigate it and apply the latest scientific thinking and real breakthroughs about the structure of time could be made.

i saw a ghost when i was young, woke up in the middle of the night for no reason and saw the outline of a little girl praying at the bottom of my bed, i was that scared i couldn't shout my mum and hid under the covers, took me what felt like hours to have a look if she was still there  saw it more than once too

I've heard that theory before, I don't think it was Stephen Hawkings but it was a proper science nut like him.
