I know the wind blew the radioactive cloud from the explosion over the town but surely being right next to the reactor even if it is encased in concrete it would be stupidly dangerous.

Not sure about the people closest to it, but i know that the people of chernobyl give birth to kids and they all have a problem in one way or another, some have minimum bone density, others develop cancer quicker, ect. some of the children come over to britain for what they call a 'week off', theres a woman who lives down the road from me who gets a couple of children every 2-3 months come over for a week, sometimes they dont come back again
