I used the search function but found nothin...

I want to get my whole car seam welded/stitch welded, does anyone know where I can get this done and roughly how much it may cost. I'm lookin for somewhere in the Nottingham, Derby area. Also I fancy one of those weld in chassis strenghening kits... Are they easily available?

don't know about the welding bit as i'm not from anywhere near you. regarding the strengthening kits you can buy off the shelf... i think lmfvauxhall had them. or else look around as i'm sure there was a tutorial somewhere to do your own.

erm, I heard somewhere with seam welding.. If a shock finds a slight weakness it'll crack all along the seam where as inch on inch off stitch welds will just crack one weld which can be easily repaired.

power doesnt really make a difference (maybe front end) but seam/stitch welding will firm up the shell.

Fit a GOOD weld in cage with gussets to A,B pillars before contemplating doing seams (not sure if its caged just now)

Anyone with a mig welder should be able to seam weld.... easy peast once you have the hang of it. As with most things though where do you stop... there are a LOT of seams on a car, and they'll need the seam sealer buffed off first before welding. A LOT of labour if you do a lot!

Thanks AK, plan is seam weld, upper and lower braces front and back, RARB, 6 point cage and gaz coilovers.. Just want it to handle perfectly

I have a mig welder but don't trust myself with this scale of work so was hopin someone could recomend a company

if you seam weld can make the chassis too stiff and cause other parts to stress fracture

If the group a nova handbook specifies stitch welding over seam welding then thats good enough reason for me.

One reason is if you seam weld and the weld starts to fail then i will progress all along the length of the seam weld with time. A stitch weld it will only be one single weld that fails.

TBH I think if a weld fails for some reason, having it stitch welded is weaker anyway so the others will still fail, I don't see how body panels ripping apart would be harder to do with less strength.

I agree that stitch is better than seam, was askin rick if his reason was different to what I thought.. Bigron, who did your cars stitch welding? Normal welder or a motorsprt kinda company? Also just the engine bay or the whole car?
