is this right what i herd on the news last night the government is cracking down on car insurance so for example if your car is declared off road because you carnt afford it the car still has to be insured incase you attempt to drive it and they said if not insured you will be fined £100 each car, so what about all these old boys that collect old cars and store them uninsured they going to be fined looks that way. and its ment to be coming into action this spring im going to be knackard as i cant afford my insurance at the moment.

insurance or no car?

If its sorned it doesn't need to be insured. Bit of a shitter really, like my corsas up for sale at the minute but it's not insured, I'm not sorning it because then it can't be driven away when someone buys it

if you have started a project e.g. engine conversion or a long project and just throw money at it when you have got it basically a hobbie but now it has to be insured??? so if its restoration work its gotta be insured incase you drive a bare shell off your path???

ahh so if its sorn i should be ok? but if your tax and mot is ticking over they see that as a risk of you driving it with no insurance?

You just declare it Sorn if its a project

It's going to be people like Paul J that have track only cars, that they day insure to get to the track and back as its cheaper than buying a trailer and towing car.

Each time they'll have to reapply for tax, then insure, then sorn and claim the money back from the tax.

i think it means you can't own any car, sorn or not without insurance.

i think its great, my corrado (i drive one) has sat in garage for 6months, insured, taxed and mot'd and i haven't been using it, couldn't be arsed to sorn it

tax is £205 a year, not that much when you think of it month by month, insurance is a twin car policy.

MOT probably ran out last month tbh.

not very much money really, not like i owe anything on finance each month

IIRC if you have had one fine before you get taken to court and properly fined. Although the pikeys that do will probably claim they have no money so will pay back £1 a week for a year from the JSA they recieve.

In all honesty though I cant understand when people say car insurance is too expensive, get a cheaper to insure car then This is my 4th year driving, 3 years no claims, i'm 21 and insurance is £500. I don't think thats unreasonable at all. No excuses really.

And people that have points, the punishment is that insurance costs more, so take it or don't get the points.

THE SCHEMEM ONLY APPLIES TO CARS THAT ARE NOT SORN.

IF THE CAR IS SORN YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY INSURANCE ON IT

It's still a cunt as there's plenty of people out there that have a 2nd car that they day insure or insure just for a weekend, now they sorn it or insure it all year round?

If you have a project you sorn it until you insure it, if you have a track car you either sorn it and trailer it everywhere or insure it all year round and use it maybe 10 times a year.

Cunts.

Its just a law that makes no sense, for example my car is off the road while i do a few bits to it ready for summer time. It's a high performance car so im not going to insure it when i cant even use it! Its in a secure unit and the tax is still current as the previous owner has put it on.

So why should i de tax it, then when I get it back on the road which will no doubt be the middle or towards the end of the month. So if i want to take it off SORN I will lose a months tax because TAX still only runs from the beggining of the month!

Where has anybody benefitted from me SORN'ing the car?
