it just means i'll only be 10 over the limit on the way to work then

either the government cannot enforce the 70mph limit well enough or they're doing something very intelligent because as it says in the article, it uses 20% more fuel to do 80 then 70.

more moneys to line their pockets.

surely it depends on the car to what its best speed is for fuel consumption?

yes, but they have obviously worked out an average on fuel consumption.

just like average emissions etc.

I dont think 20% is accurate for my car

70 -> 80 means an extra ~300 rpm

and will there still be a 10% on that? So instead of getting away with 77 mph you will get away with 88mph? Or did that never exist?

there should be no speed limits imo, you should be able to do whatever speed you want and if you see a woman or child on the road slow down to about 60 in rural areas

Of course it's not going to happen, when was the last time the government raised the speed limit anywhere? In fact they're planning on lowering the M1 through Sheffield to 50mph to lower pollution. The speed limit isn't just what it's safe to do, it's to do with thinking / braking distance etc

If anything it will be lowered to 60mph like Spain for fuel reasons.

My Punto seemed to do better MPG at 80mph in the summer with aircon on than at 70mph.

I don't think it'll happen tbh - at least they won't have to upgrade signage if they did.

yes and 70mph is based on a stopping distance of a car with drum brakes all round

An extra 10mph is fuckall but wastes more fuel. Imo its just another way to get us to use more fuel so we have to buy more quicker.

but you know that won't happen.

we'll get people doing 60 in the overtaking lanes because it's somehow safer than being in the slow lane even though it isn't.

i dont think it will change the attitudes of your every day driver. they will drive as if the limit is 70 but the fast lane will get quicker

i have never seen someone drive at 60 in the fast lane though
