I know it's been asked many of times but how do you go about it?

I only want to trailer a small trailer big enough to carry garden waste but I'm guessing it'll be the same for all trailers? Whats the costs etc?

A little trailer wont be close to the limit, Rough idea is up to 750kg trailer.

You can tow up to what ever you mam of you vehicle taken away from 3.5tonne, as long as it isn't more than the weight of your car and withing the maximum train weight of your car, assuming it's a braked trailer.
All depends on what your towing it with,

I thought you needed a seperate test for towing a trailer if you passed your test after a certain year?

Bigger trailers, yes.

There are exemptions in the B licence which allow smaller trailers, namely unbraked up to 750kg or braked and weighing less than the car, with a train weight of less than 3.5t.

You shouldn't need it for that, I'm doing mine but it's to tow my Corsa behind my Transit.

If the trailer's plated to 750kg or less then you're fine, if it's over that then you've got to start looking into the weight of the car you're using to tow.

Basically if the trailer is over 750kg gross then gross weight of the car added onto the gross weight of the trailer can't be more than 3.5t and the gross weight of the trailer has to be less than the unladen weight of the car so you need 3 figures,

1. Gross weight of the trailer
2. Gross weight of the car
3. Unladen weight of the car

No.1 has to be less than No.3 and No.1 added to No.2 can't be more than 3500kg.

If you actually want to do your trailer test then just have a search for local LGV training places, they usually do the B+E too, or know someone who they'll advise

Doesn't matter what the purpose is, just the weights.

I would guess you'll need a fairly heavy convoy unless you want the horse to decide where you're going.

Would probably fall in to +E if so.

is the test similar to a driving test or is it just uncoupling and coupling safely, reversing and off road reversing?

Yeah its a proper drive around, as well as unhitch, move off, return, re-attach, and bit of reversing.

Yeah, test is basically the same as the C+E (Class 1) test just in a much smaller vehicle

I'm quite looking forward to my training to see what it's like. Never towed before, apart from recovering a Transit with a bar, I wasn't too fussed on that but that was partly because I had to be careful and consider the comfort levels for my uncle who was in the Transit being towed

plus it was the first time I'd ever towed and I was in a 3.5t Transit towing another 3.5t Transit
