Clips the rocks on the inside which sent him outside or just wasnt looking at the road. Didnt make out any tire smoke or black lines on the photos of the skidding either

The distance from those rocks to the cliff edge is hardly the length of the car, so im guessing he had about 1millionth of a second to react and that was it.
