Easy to forget legends, stumbled across this video, such a talent then gave so much to motorsport, still sorely missed in my eyes

Probably the most dangerous sport and they both competed in it and gave it all they had more or less all the time, well I know Colin did and often came out a bit worse for wear. He was into motocross bikes aswell I think which has a fair level of danger. Both tragedies, RIP

The level of respect McRae still commands in the sport says it all. Other drivers knew going in to the last stages it didn't matter whether they had a minute's lead or they drove flat out, until he crossed the line there was no guarantee they'd won.

True rallying legend but he should not have been flying the helicopter.

O well thats alright then. So if someone crashed there car carrying a member of your family and they all died and it was then discovered there license was two and a half years out of date and had failed to sit mandatory proficiency tests then you would be totally fine with it i guess.

not at all, what i mean is life take its own course, its a true tragedy he was flying the helicopter with his license out of date but it happened, no-one will ever know if he was force or it was his choice.

Don't turn this into a witch hunt. McRae was a legend. But he did make a major error in judgement. RB was a different kettle of fish. The poor bastard was on the top of his game and started getting slower and slower due to the tumour, but noone knew! The lad never stood a chance.

Colin McRae was a fucking hero.
Never really took to Richard Burns but he was very talented and it was tragic.
Strange I preferred the Scot!!!
Grew up watching McRae tho.
On his day no one could touch him, but he was always so on the limit or slightly over he was likely to crash.
It was always a case of "Win it or Bin it"
I remember seeing the news footage breaking that a helicopter registered in McRaes name had crashed, and hoping that he wasn't on it.

Is that true tho? I thought he only binned it due to pissing around. Not heard about his license being out of date etc.??

No cause was ever determined (be it human error or mechanical failure). Its been widely reported that his License was 2.5 years out of date and his Licence Proficiency Check was 6 months out of date. It was also reported a few months back that he was not Licensed to fly the particular model of helicopter he was flying on the day he crashed however i guess this comes down to the fact he had not got a valid license or completed his Licence Proficiency Check so was therefor not Licensed on any helicopter.

I bet he had flown that helicopter countless times before, just happened on that particular day a tragedy happened
Just because he didnt have an in date piece of paper saying he was competent to fly doesnt mean he wasnt capable. Would it of stopped the crash that day? I personally dont think so

Probably mechanical, as it sounded fairly rough.
