Why didn't they say £1.40 or £1.50 first why stop at £1.60...its a conspiracy.

I worked this out myself when deciding between a Golf GTi and a Golf GT TDi of the same value, the saving on fuel along was negligable.

I posted a link i na thread which showed how many miles you would have to do in the diesel to make it viable over the petrol alternative, cant remember which thread though.

Just buy what ever makes you happy. I've had petrol and diesel. Not biased to one or the other, both have their place.

diesel drives better if you want to be lazy and not work the car.

for spirited driving most petrols are "better"

I thought people that buy petrol cars don't care about running costs as they tend to always take the piss out of diesel owners along the lines of being cheapskates.

People are stupid, stupid people who do less than 12,000 a year buying diesels are complete imbeciles.

No saving to be made unless you do stupid miles every year.

Workmate went from a 1.3 petrol hyundai accent to a 206 Hdi 1.6.

He does about 2 miles a day to and from work and a trip to Asda's once a week which is about a 13mile round trip.

Now,he says when he had the hyundai,he was putting 40quid in once a month which done him fine with a wee bit extra left over.Now he says he puts 40quid of diesel in the 206 and that lasts him 6 weeks doing the same miles.His life is pretty routine so i have no reason not to believe him.

Can these people who do the maths work the above out for me please.

He seems to be making a killing of a saving whilst doing fuk all miles in his derv.

Its a killing of a saving when there is people claiming that it would take 12k miles to see any gains from buying a diesel over a petrol.

It would probably take him 5 years to do 12k.
