ok so after looking at so many different cars, i now don't need the extra space a hatch would give me and i want something small, light, quick and with good handling that doesn't cost the earth to run.

it would be my daily, i do 20 miles a day commuting sitting at 60-70mph all the way. i don't mind not having luxuries, just want something to get me to work and back every day that will also be immense fun on weekends.

are these expensive when needing repairs (engine wise, not cosmetic)? also, autotrader suggests a combined fuel economy of around 30-35mpg for both the 2.2 and 2.0 turbo which isn't too bad at all.

got a decent quote on one and i can't find anything that comes close that will give me the fun factor but also be reasonable to run and maintain.

They're small and uncomfortable, make sure you can live with that.

You ever sat in one?

unfortunately no. i don't need something comfortable, just something fun.

if the puma was wider, lower and more powerful it'd be perfect. don't really want to pay for an frp anyway as the performance is pretty pants.

Loved mine. Used it every day. Did long journeys in it. Only issue I had was a broken engine mount. A common fault and was still in warrenty so no worries there.
Basically an astra so they are reliable. Just the usaul timing chain issues as with the 2.2 astras.
Buy one. You won't regret it.

not sure what colour it is but it seems a bargain for under 7k.

I didn't love the driving position, my knees touch the steering wheel and there's no room to the right of your right foot.

£7k is no money at all to buy one though, very cheap indeed.

They are crap in winter, the heater is shit so the windscreen usually freezes on the inside. On the area between the bootlid and back of the car the paint will bubble and sometimes crack, this costs a lot to fix properly. The front is a stone magnet and lots of chips are common.

They are sometimes difficult to work on, cambelt on turbo is difficult but not impossible. Same with engine mounts, these are common for going, especially on cars driven properly. Not that expensive to buy though. Rear link bars are common for going, easy to change and not too dear though. Basic service is straight forward.

They sound dog shit with a standard engine, you will want to change the exhaust but its a right pain in the arse as they nearly always need cutting off, buy one with sensible modifications. Generally they don't seem to be unreliable, but you do get a lot of creaks, knocks and bangs.

The inside is very small, if your a fatty you will get intimate with your passengers. It doesn't have a cabin filter so you get flies and grit in your face when the vents are open. Driving position is perfect, I don't find them uncomfortable. Getting in and out is not much fun, overall these cars have a lot of flaws, but when you find yourself on a quiet country lane you will forget every single little niggle thing and soon have a grin from ear to ear! When you park up everybody is your best mate.

The old tights over the heating vent stops the crap coming in. Everything else Adam mentioned never bothered me. Even not being able to open the door when the lock was frozen solid.
I didn't regret not having the turbo but I did want the turbo looks.
Hmm. I miss it

the lock freezing solid has happened to my 3 previous cars, nothing new there

i'd like the turbo looks (spoiler and vents), but i guess you can buy them and put them on if you wanted to. just can't justify 10k+ for one when i could pick one up for 7-8k and i know it'd be plenty fast enough for me.

It was for sale again not long ago
yeah turbo bits are fairly easy to fit. Lights you can take apart and spray the silver bits black

At work on Friday I heard a noise of a car, looked around to see what it was and about 5 seconds later one of these went passed. It must have been the turbo version, sounded ace.
