Was bored today so went to Halfords and bought some of there 'Anthracite Wheel Paint' and some Lacquer.

Took them off and give them a clean with fairy liquid

rubbed them down and paid attention to some scuff marks due to careless tyre fitting.

rinsed them and let them dry, gave them a coat of primer then a few coats of wheel paint, then finally a few coats of lacquer all in the space of about 4 hours. Didnt mask the tires due to it not sticking because of the tyre dressing, i figured the spray would flake off anyway which it now has lol.

I did this purely to decide wether to go Black or Anthracite when i get them powder coated.

Pics:
3 Coats of Paint

With lacquer

CLosest with lacquer furthest without

Finished on the car

Looks well try washing the tyres with some thinners or something, should have done that first to wash off the tyre shine, that way tape would have stuck.

Did a good job on them pal, you could have let the tyres down and slid paper under the rim to cover the tyres

Yeah im quite surprised with the finish tbh, considering my lack of patience lol. Never thought of that danny, its got to have 2 new tyres soon anyway so ill get the wheels done then.

Not 100% decided on Anthracite or Black though lol.

I think the Anthracite looks more subtle and classy where as the black would look racey and roar. If that makes sense?

Prefer the original colour.
The paint will probably chip when you get them changed as well.

Possibly due to the way they change tyres? Or because the paint and laq. Are pretty thin especially at the edges. Happened to my old wheels but it was nothing major.

Any decent garage who changes wheels will not even touch the rim of an alloy when changing a tyre. as for the paint thickness, no reason why mike wont have put the same amount of paint on as a bodyshop would have done via a gun tbh

I glanced at the top picture, and seeing as they're not reflecting everything around them assumed a matt finish.

My wheels are metallic painted and matt lacquered. Surely that makes them... matt metallic look? It's not impossible.

thats a fantastic finish but i think black would look better, anthracite against black paint looks a little odd imo

Looks good - I'd stick with Anthracite personally - not a fan of Black Wheels.
