Its an offence to not display tax AFIAK so yes you would have to wait, or not wait til it is about to run out before applying.

Jambo is right about it being an offence to not display the tax.

Its not 100% legal, but print out the confirmation and put it in your windscreen if you are desperate to use it. Its unlikely to be a problem if the rest of your car is ok.

You are allowed to display and out of date tax disk for 5 days after it ran out, as a new one takes up to 5 days to come, it says on the reminder.

i would drive it.. it is currently taxed as you have paid for it. just find out exactly when the tax you have paid for starts. if you get pulled over just tell the 5-0 you have paid and its in the post, just keep your old disk in the window, you should be ok.. just saying thats what i would do, not sure if it is 100% legal, just my oppinion.

in this day and age it shouldn't be a problem at all, but some sad smart arse copper will pull you over for it.

have to be really unlucky to get pulled though as it wouldn't flag up on the PNC.

i drove around for a week before as my tax disc hoder decided to fall off. had no problems.

I'm driving my sisters car without tax at the moment anyway, I've just insured it and I'll be paying for a full months tax once I can actually tax it online.

Every car ive ever owned ive driven without displaying the tax disk at some point. Always pay it but usually leave the house and forget. Been pulled a few times without it and its never been mentioned. As long as its taxed the police arent too fussed i think, the ones to watch are the community support officers. Only seen them walk down my road twice and twice my car was on the road and they always check.

Ive been pulled before without a tax disk (but taxed online) and nothing was said, I think it would take one very picky copper to do anything.

You will be fine mate

quote:
If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

It tells you on the website when you buy the tax.

Print the receipt, Keep it in the car, Drive it and It would be unlucky for you to get pulled for tax, as it will be shown as taxed 5mins after taxing it online, even though you don't have the disc.

They are more likely to stop you for mods on your car than not displaying a tax disc.

I wouldnt worry about it unless you are going to park in any patrolled carparks or on the street.. Police dont really care as they can see your taxed with a PNC check but its the jobs-worth traffic wardens that will give you agro.
