Need to purchase stuff to clean the car with.

If I were to treat it as if I had nothing at all apart from a power washer what should I be looking at buying?

Bucket, sponge, drying towel? shampoo? polish? Halford's the best to buy this stuff?

As you can tell I don't normally wash cars

Bucket wash mit, drying towel, halfords shampoo is fine but I'd get the red stuff from costco.

Some super resin and some collinite 476s and you'll be sorted.

Just what i use.

I use ASDA drying towels, get them for £3 each and one towel will do a whole car.

Also get two buckets.

One is for washing the car the other is for washing the crap out of the mit which has been picked up from the car. one bucket will turn black whilst the other stays nice and clean.

Also if you can get some All Purpose cleaner you can dilute this and use it on the areas which pick up a lot of gunk like window seals, roof runners, door handles, door and boot shuts and wheel arches.

Linseed oil also works well as a tire dressing.

You will not be able to get Col from halfords although you will be able to get some Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection which will also work well.

Halfords also has a 3 for 2 offer on detailing stuff right now.

i used a bit of wd40 mixed with petrol

gets the tarr crap of easy

also i used pound store wash and wax to wash it normally, but it always seems to rain after i do it

got some pink devil shine stuff that you put on after.... im a bit unsure of it... anyone used this?

I'll pass on mixing wd40 with petrol and putting it anywhere near my paintwork for now, thanks though

I use this little spec to wash my car:

meguiars ultimate wash and wax

meguiars clay kit

meguiars step 1,2,3

meguiars Ultimate liquid wax

meguiars ultimate spray wax

Wheels: bilberry wheel cleaner and meguiars endurance high gloss for tires

If you want to be able to go in and get stuff from Halfords then Meguiars is probably the best bet as they seem to have a good range of their kit in there. Meg's shampoo, AG super resin polish and a Meg's wax will have it looking pretty good.

I've been known to use the odd Meguiar's product

Anything by them is A1. End.

I went in there the other day with the plan to pick up some megs wax but my 3 stores had nothing?

Might be different at some other stores but i really wanted some and couldnt find any.

I am very fond of the Megs gear though. Always smells so so good! especialy their quick detailer!

Autoglym stuff in a bucket of hot water.
Hose to wash off the soap after doing each side.

Job done.

Is there any products that takes off stuck on tar? Apart from petrol and wd40.

Depends what the paint is like to begin with, if the whole car feels rough its good, if it doesn't its a waste of time.

All you need for that is to take pictures and then get a thesaurus out before you give each picture a sentence, instant detailer.

i always use meguiars gold class shampoo as it give a nice wet look finish, along with a microfibre cloth to dry. nothing fancy, but it works.
