Been looking at 156's lately and seeing as hardly anyone dares buy a used Alfa, you seem to get a lot of car for the money.
Considering the 2004-2005 JTS, but can't really dust up anyone to confirm that it's a good investment...
Anyone got experience? Everything I've heard so far seems to be rumors or hearsay.

My dads got an Alfa 159 2.4 JTD. Had nothing but problems with it running like a bag of crap.

In terms of how many people needed to use their warrenty on a new alfa they are as bad as you are lead to believe.

I lobe the 166 I think it is. Late 90's/00 car 5 series size. Can buy them for about £1k which would seem to me that they are probably fucking shite but they look nice

My parents had a 2.5 v6 156 and it was nothing short of perfect for 5 years, then it was sold.
I want a proper alfa, a 75, 155 or even a 33

A guy i went to school with, him and his parents are mad on Alfa's, and they seem to stay with them.
I can remember when i was about 16 and going for a blast in his dads old V6 GTV, felt like the fastest thing in the world. Was quick.
Think his old man has a Brera now.

sister had a 156 t-spark, pile of shit and eventually blew up on the M25
drove a few as loan cars at my last bodyshop, alfa GT (always had warranty issues) 159 estate jdm (only one that didnt break and was quickest being diesel over the petrol V6's)
and a V6 Brera, dashboard like a xmas tree with the constant warning lights, which is a shame as alfas are lovely to look at, some of the best interiors around but are let down by shoddy electrics and underpowered engines
one of the service advisors at porsche i know used to work in a alfa dealership said there were 2 types (one half would be fine and just come back for ther usual service, other half would spend more time on the ramp than on the road)

I know a guy with a 156, first some trim fell off > had an electrical problem > gearbox blew up > timing belt snapped....
It seems GTVs aren't too bad for reliability for some reason.

Bro had the V6 156 (think it was the 2.5), with the sport pack with huge rear wing
That hadn't been looked after, went silly miles between services and was fine. Think the only main problems were a hole in the radiator and a worn gear selector fork

Its such a shame that Alfa's seem to live up to their reputation otherwise they'd be near perfect.

My friend at work had a 51 plate 147 I think, one of them Selespeed ones.
Bearing in mind he's had 90's MR2's, a Golf TDi, 2 306 XSi's etc, and lives with his parents (so has plenty to chuck at his cars), it nearly bankrupted him
BUT he reckons its the nicest and 'best quality' car he's ever had...bit like Top Gear really, the best car is the worst car!

I had a 58 plate JDTM Spider as a courtesy car for 3 months, in that time I did 6000miles and it never skipped a beat and was surprisingly quick considering it was a diesel, quite a refined engine although it was a bit thirsty.I'm seriously considering one for my next car

Brother is currently trying to find a facelifted 156 JTD 2.4 . The diesel engines are reliable, They are Fiat sourced, and I believe losely related to the Vaux diesel engines as per most Fiat diesels.
Main problems on the actual car is trim falling off and some of them seem to like setting them selves alight on the passenger headlight...

folks had a 3.0 V6 GTV - had a couple of niggles with rear suspension i think.
We had a 1.6 146 for a while - i quite liked it, Fee not so.... it drove her mad and she would refuse to drive it. The bushes on the gear selector were buggered, glove box broke, AirBag light problems....
I thought it was a nice handling car though - could get it nicely sideways round (into) corners

Nothing wrong with mine, any small niggles are been fixed by the dealer with a smile. Amazing service and a fantastic car to drive, even if it is a 1.6 diesel
