have found myself in a situation i never thought i would get in, i used to think it was stupid that people could take a car off the road and take years to get it back on the road.

it used to be the longest corrado was off the road was 2-3weeks.

Its now been about a year since i've had a decent drive of it and really missing it.

I've just been lazy really, should of done it ages ago but i just can't be bothered

Anyone else feeling the same, especially with winter coming, no point doing it now

No, can't imagine driving about in an old escort all the time because my other old slightly better car was on axle stands in the garage.

Unless it's something really really special there's no point having it if you can't drive it.

I've been fitting a C20XE to my Corsa for about 10 months now and its only coming close to completion now, I've just been lazy and couldn't be assed with it most of the time but at the same point I couldn't wait to get it done

It's defo the motivation. I rememeber days being completley numb with cold from working on the car. Engine conversions, Suspension washing it in the winter early in the morning.

These days it's a drag to drive it to Sainsburys to pump up the tyres

From what i have seen over the years, long term project cars normally get sold after about 6mth of being off the road with only 5% of the plans done.

Really fucks me off when people make big plans going to do this and that blah blah, and you just know its never gonna happen.I think its just attention seeking.

You seem to be genuine though and actually doing the work.

its more the fact i like the car and want/need to fix the steering rather than getting a new car

Get it fixed and drive it then, don't leave it in the garage.

my plans aren't unrealistic, most of the things i'm doing will just be new/standard stuff.

i'm happy with standard power too, so shouldn't be any grief getting it running as that all works already

I am exactly the same. I remember washing my old corsa and having the water freeze on it as I did it. Funnily enough my gyres need checking and have done for ages but everytime I go to the petrol station I think I will just worry about it next time.

Your right you do see a lot of that on forums, with only a few people ever reaching there goal!

Personally i have always got there in the end My GSi is heading for the garage this winter... and will be a 50/50 chance if it ever makes it out in the next 12 months lol

i first got my car in may 2007 and decided to xe it in the september, it passed its mot just in august 2009, i was/ am a truck mechanic , an got mugged of with a duff engine (only cost £100 the full package tho) it wouldn,t idle, then ran lumpy, then wouldnt start. Basically the only thing what idnt new is the coil pack.
I got stung on here by a scammer for driveshafts, which got resolved. then at the 1st mot the alternator went. the list goes on really.

Tbh i got demoralised with it but constant nagging and its slowly getting there, and is still on going now.

My Xe has just gone in for repair today after 6 weeks being sat in mi garage... been driving for 5 year and that is the longest ive been without a car.....

I can see your point but its mainly the second car that stays off the road for ages not the daily runaround
