just been reading the horse thread and got me thinking about cyclists, where i live is quiet built up but i work 30 miles away in the sticks and the majority of the drive is using country lanes most of which are very "pretty" in the summer and attract a lot of lycra wearing cyclists now on one particular road there has been a number of car crashes due to it having so many sharp blind bends due to hedges etc and the majority of the crashes according to the farmers on the road are down to cyclists cars going to go round them and having to go to wide because there not riding close enough to the kirb and slamming head on

but it was yesterday when i went to drive home from work and the road was closed off police everywhere i went further up and spoke to a few people and found out that a big bunch of cyclists riding in a big cluster rather than single file rode around a blind bend to meet a transit van, luckily no one was hurt too badly but it looked like some had played skittles bikes and bits of allsorts everywhere lol.

it got me thinking and i think cyclists should not be allowed to ride on roads or should atleast have to pay some sort of insurance!! or tax or something due to the accidents the cause most of the time without even realising!!

thoughts?

Or just make it illegal to ride anything other than single file. Doubt there are that many accidents caused by cyclists.

one thing that i hate about them is they choose to ride on the road but not the pavement but they somehow feel they are allowed to ride through red lights or jump on pavement and back onto the road there a pain in the tits

More annoyed with cyclists on the road where there's a perfectly useable cycle lane alongside the road that has been provided just for them but decide not to use it.

Lost count of how many Chinese people I've killed riding a Barclays bicycle when driving in London. They just don't look, or undertake you when clearly indicating to make a left turn, lucky I check my mirrors.

I'm a cyclist... I have just as much right to use the road as you do in a car? I pay my road tax for the car and I have insurance for when I'm riding. It's scary the lack of knowledge most motorists have when it comes to driving around cyclists, and it's usually the idiots in their audi's and bmw's who've come close to almost knocking me off when I'm riding perfectly close to the kerb? Besides most literature regarding cycling says you should ride a few feet out from the kerb, it should be safer as it prompts the motorist to slow down and overtake safely rather than at 100 leptons.
I'm not saying all cyclists are perfect because they're not, I've witnessed some idiots that's for sure and that's sad because it gives the rest of us a bad name.

What I do find interesting is there was no cycling proficiency or anything when I was in school, is this something that has been restarted in more recent years?

In my opinion it's just a lack of education, I actually quite despise riding on the road these days because of the amount of idiot drivers

Yes it annoys me when they ride side by side, so i blast the air horn then they turn round and shake their head. But as from 3rd October, I'll be a bike rider myself but i'll be sticking by the rules.

It says in in the Highway Code, surely that's enough. Plus they wont listen, as not everyone listens to speed limits.

If you require being educated on how to sensibly ride a bike you shouldn't be allowed out on the road because you are clearly a danger.

Worst is in queuing traffic or a road with lots of traffic lights.

They go in front, make you overtake, go in front, make you overtake

i would like to personally gun down each and every cyclist in london soooo glad i dont have a car anymore, they were the bain of my life - absolute reckless idiots who seem to think that the rules of the road dont apply to them, yet carry cameras to film drivers

strange minority, whenever i have seen more then one cyclist they have always been more then 1 abreast. So yeah either im witnessing cyclists that go against the laws of averaging and chance, or its not actually the minority
