As some people know ive got an evo 6, few mods, jmf/ross sport ex mani, tme turbo, controller, ralliart ecu, walbro etc, car clocked 120k friday, and seen some hammer from me and mate who owned it from new for past 10years, so with this in mind and as always wanting more power, ive gone for the 2.3 kit ross.at ross sports doing for silly money, 4g64 100mm crank, steel rods and 85.5mm CP pistons for grand total of 999 delivered so xmas has come abit early, going to just buy all parts for now for long motor to support 550-600bhp and look at building nxt year in between renovating new house got too love abit off boost.

£999 for rods, pistons and crank?
Not bad think Impreza kits are around £1800 just now.
I take they are decent quality new parts yeah?
PS - 550-600 = nice running costs to keep it at that power Clutch, gearboxes etc.
What turbo you thinking of?

wonder what an evo lump would be like in an impreza...they really seem to come into their own when it gets to torque...100mm crank!

Not sure on turbo yet, few lads have started using the s205's, but i need to decide whether want to stay on standard evo flange or a t3 style, the kits so cheap as ross bought a bulk load of cranks, rods will be good for 650-700bhp, crank and pistons will handle 1000bhp or so, so definately a good price. Will be goin jun or hks 272 cams, beehive springs and caps, twin plate clutch, and get gearbox rebuilt aswell as transfer, aslong as dont continually launch stock box and transfer will take 600bhp relatively easy.

why rebuild it if its on the limit? Just use it - if it brakes pop another second hand in - straight swap.
Much cheaper than a rebuilt box with no strength increase :S
Heard a lot about failures on the s205 (or maybe 206) on TA cars this year. Not sure of the ins and outs. Pretty sure they are 500ish bhp turbos so you'd have run a bit of loopy juice and crazy boost to see the 600.
T04Z?
GT30?

Ak's suggestion on the gearbox replacing strategy is sound IMHO.
Use standard ones as disposables

We run a variant of the s205 on our 500bhp focus rs conversions, not seen any with Problems, done about 9 now, although I know marc kemp had alot of issues with his time attack evo but that was more engine related rather than turbo related.

the ross sport stuff is spot on, which tuner are you having the engine built buy and mapped.
if your going for a 2.3 then get a bigger turbo, if you want 550bhp get a s205.
if you want 600bhp plus then the black is a mint choice

Im more than confident to do the machining and building myself, thats not a prob, mapping im tempted for ross, my mate if went dta or think trl have had some good reports, gaz at CPP is also another choice, hes done quite abit of work and been very very happy, turbo wise with going for the 2.3, i get away abit more with a larger turbo, so 35 was in mind, the blacks seem to be doing the rounds at the moment, going to have a read up on mlr and see what people are using and favour in terms of how smooth power is, how quick turbo spools, how long down the revs turbo makes full boost and how long through the revs it holds too, want a smooth 550-600bhp engine.

....a 30 would be better than a 35 then!
If 600 is the max you want there is no point getting a turbo that will be capable or more.
There are 2.1 Impreza's running the billet GT30R's around 600bhp now.... decent spool etc
A 35 will give more power - a bigger punch, but later in the revs - less smooth.

Think i have said before but i read a thread on mlr where some big power owners wished they had stayed at 400 for a road car
