Looking at these for my next car after the winter, anyone got any experiences of them? Seen a few on pistonheads with 200+bhp and some serious ft lb of torque!

I have a friend with one and they are amazing. Quick and achieve great mpg!
I'd have one. Very reliable compared to the 1.8T sensor issues.

Mpg is what I need seeing as im doing 500+ miles a week! Shame to put such milage on it, but im sick of driving a shit old octavia to work

Diesel is the answer! Fabia vRS or Ibiza Cupra TDI
I'd choose the Ibiza, but insurance might be nicer with the Labia.

I've got a Golf GT TDI which is basically the same engine. You'll be looking at about 600 miles to a tank.
Not the fastest thing on the road but the torque is fun when your moving

Good little cars, Iv had mine for over 3 years now. I see 350-400 miles to a tank with back road driving and usually getting a good thrash on a daily basis.
Not too sure what bhp the turbos on them are good for, I know the likes of xa0s is running 240 on that turbo (i think) but thats hybrid obviously.
Standard clutch isnt good for anything over 300 lb ft so if buying one thats remapped it should have an uprated clutch, if not you'll likely need to factor in the cost of that. I was £1000 for clutch, flywheel etc. Parts only
In 3 years and 40k Iv only had 1 engine issue and that was an EML due to MAF, car still drove fine though and was replaced under warranty
Other stuff is the bushes which are prone to going but cupra has stronger / better bushes and doesnt have that problem

I've got 42mpg in both my fabia and my ibiza.
I'd have a fabia though, better put together than the ibiza.

In a choice of Fabia VRs or Ibiza Cupra, I would pick the Cupra, bigger 4 pot brakes, better bushes, nicer interior, bigger turbo, FMIC, etc.
VRs against the FR, its just a choice of which styling you prefer.
With 200bhp and over 300lb/ft, it will be quick on the road, 'generally' most petrol cars will need over 250bhp to keep up

Quick question antnee
bit confused sometimes as you see PD150 and PD160 turbos mentioned. Obviously cupras fitted with a PD160 turbo, being a PD160 engine? Where does the PD150 turbo come from or is it just people picking up engine codes / numbers wrong and its just a 160?

The Ibiza is the only car to have a PD160, as far as Im aware, its only mapping tweeks to give it the extra 10hp over the 150. Turbo is the same.

Ok, just a bit of confusion and wondered where the pd150 and pd160 came from but basically same engine but named pd160 in the cupra due to some tweaks.

I would have thought they would need similar torque figures rather than bhp. Or are you talking about N/A petrol cars??
Plenty other variable's involved, but to make that claim about bhp figures is quite bold.

The diesel will have the acceleration to start off with aswell, with having most its power low down the rev range

i had a mk4 ibiza wasnt the cupra though mine was just the lowly SE so wouldnt be as good as the cupra but i hated mine

Off the line it won't, but from rolling starts from 2nd gear etc it will have the advantage against your average high revving N/A motor.
TD's give off the impression they are quicker than what they are because of the initial low down kick/pull when they come on boost, but on the road against high revving motors, they can be caught out.

I wouldn't worry about a clutch too much tbh. My Ibiza FR has been mapped since i bought it with 19k on it and my brother has it now with 66k on any had no issues at all with the clutch slipping

What torque is it running? Usually stage 1 is ok on standard clutch. Cupras already have the fmic so all thats needed for stage 2 is an exhaust and then map

Around 270ft/lb, although my brother is going to be buying a miltek turbo back for it then getting the map tweaked to suit so should knock it up a bit more

Fuck me, aint cheap for insurance! Im £1250 for an astra VXR, 20, 3years NCB. £1650 for one of these 
I wont be getting one til around next march anyways, by which time ill be 21 and have 4 years NCB.

Im around £550 for my FR with 1 years NCB, 22years old and 3 points
Simon, clutches are generally ok with below 300lb ft so that will be how yours has been ok. Usually custom maps that see higher torque with stage 1, my revo flash is 256lb ft which is pretty shite
