ok so i've basically looked at almost every car possible that i can insure for under £1k and i really can't make my mind up.
gone from LCR 225's to clio 182's, to audi a4's to focus rs mk1's etc etc.
now i've always liked the look of the mk1 tt's and the 1.8t 225 models seem to have enough power to keep me happy whilst also giving respectable fuel economy.
i know it's basically a mk4 golf in drag as jr has said this numerous times before, but other than that is there anything actually wrong with them with regards to driving/being a good all rounder?
don't need 4 seats but it's handy having space for storage which these have (coupe's).

My manager has a convertible 1.8T 225. It isn't a nice place to site particularly. Interior is quite dated and doesn't feel as refined as I thought it would. Hers is only a 2002 52 on about 40,000 miles.
I'd rather the LCR225 for practicality.

Girls cars! Hair dressers etc.
Nah seriously I loved mine, best car I've owned and far better than LCR.
Remap and got 260bhp, add a blue flame non-res and sound great!
Interiors are excellent quality, Quattro is fun in the snow, wet.
I'd look at a V6 just for noise!

i love the exterior of the rs but hate the dated dash. i actually think the interior off the tt's look fantastic. quite minimal with some nice silver bits, what i like best really.
LCR is a no no as insurance is over 1k and i hate the dash and the exterior just doesn't do it for me.

anything over 25mpg on a run will be fine. my daily commute consists of 20 miles total of dual carriageway so easy to get decent mpg.
i also need something with decent power (circa 200bhp+) as i'm getting 36mpg from a 1.25 fiesta on a run, just trying to keep up with traffic

I averaged 25mpg thrash it and below 20mpg but sit on M'Way at 80ish and will be 30's all day!
225 then remap with exhaust and it's a totally different car!
What about a Quattro Sport they have dropped in price recently!

I love them and always have. My mate had one and it was only a bogo 180, but she's a girl. The interior was so nice so cosy just like my Z3. Proper occasion inside. But still roomy.
Lots of mods out there and they are ludo cheap. I want one now

I think the mk1 tt is deffo a woman's choice. A lass I know bought a nearly new 225 model from Audi and it was in the garage more times it was out. She ended up hating the thing and says its the worst car she's ever owned. The LCR is a better car IMO, better looking for a kick off and much more practical.
The Focus RS is a good shout tho but my mates is pretty greedy on fuel. Having only 5 gears doesn't help matters I suppose. They hold there value well which is a good thing.

I had a mk1 225, remapped, cat back, and it was awesome. 0-60 in 5.5, 0-100 in 14.0 and did 155 easily.
I averaged 23mpg. Could get 37mpg on a long motorway run, sitting at 65 constantly. Almost managed 500 miles from a tank doing that.
