Hey. I parked outside my mates last night and someone drove into my car. They were nice enough to leave details, so I just phoned him.
This guy is claiming because I parked on a single yellow line I may be liable / his insurance probably won't pay out. Is this true?? I think single yellow line means prohibited certain times and this was at night so should be ok? Right?
Will i need to pay excess??
Tom want some work?

Did he give you his insurance details?
If so phone them.
There should be a sign on a pole telling you what the restrictions are.
Only need to pay excess if you go through your own insurance, which you want to avoid if possible.

go and check the signage and see when it says you can/can't parked.
usually single yellow lines are no parking for a certain time, usually around schools/train stations.

bullshit, your car could be abandoned in the middle of the road, its still "there to be seen" theres not an ounce of liability on your part.

there to be seen is an argument or statement made in legal argument. its an appropriate defence that can be used even when someone is making a completely illegal manoeuvre

So, should I phone his insurance on monday and just not mentioned the yellow line?
Just say 'this guy admitted liability, gave me his details etc...'
will this affect my premium at all long term? I'm half tempted to go out and t cut it... could probably push that dent out too.

ring his insurer ask them if they want to deal with it directly, its hit while parked and hes provided details and admitted hitting you so they should quite happily take the claim on to keep costs down.
he may be disputing full liability but the last word is down to the insurer not him

im not 100% clued up on this sort of thing but why would u contact your insurance ? contact his insurance as lee said stating he hit your parked car admitted his fault left details etc, have your car repaired properly job done and finished, why does your insurance need to know ? your only claiming from his insurance for a repair
i may be wrong and someone may be able to tell you but surely just as above hopefully easy for you

ive just left my job of 4 years as a claims handler
i wouldnt bother personally, see if his insurer will take on the claim for you that way your insurer doesnt find out and you dont get increased premiums. does depend on who his insurer is and who yours are though, if theyre part of the same group they may well share info

technically you should notify your own insurer of an accident immediately however i have never seen an instance where an insurer has done anything at all when a fault or non fault party has failed to report it even when ive been chasing unreported claims 12 months + after the accident.

you might aswell let your own insurance company know mate as they always find out.
i had an accident in january 2007 and came off in january 2010. change insurance companies in july 2010 and they found out and charged me for this non fault accident (only had to declare to them 3 years worth), eventually got refunded but in your case, you wouldn't.

It may be worth settling outside of the insurance as it doesn't look like a huge repair, you may even t-cut out the mark on the light.
Get some quotes and contact the guy and just say you are willing to settle outside of the insurance company if he is. That way it will save both parties insurance premiums rocketing
